CR Editors: Trump’s Questionable Political History

It is hard not to feel protective over Donald Trump while the political classes are seething and scornful.

They are unacquainted with such powerlessness. Control was never supposed to stray this far from their grasp. And their rage, manifested in every hapless attack on Trump and his supporters, actually seems to be improving the likelihood of that outcome they fear most of all.

How tempting, under these circumstances, to rush to his defense, as so many in the conservative movement have already done. The Donald has boldly made himself a standard bearer of unpopular (…within the political bubble), yet critical policy positions concerning national security, from the urgency of immigration enforcement to the potential implications of refugee resettlement.

He has played a pivotal role in dragging these and other issues from the shadows that the media might otherwise have not been so quick to shine a light on. He has made the case against birthright citizenship, spent countless campaign hours pledging to build a wall, and talked tough to the politically correct mafia at a time when its fascistic influence has left millions of citizens feeling voiceless.

Trump’s style and substance—brazen, unapologetic and quite popular—have upended equanimity on the left, leaving the “public intellectuals” screaming over one another to denounce his absurdity, the effrontery, the horror.

>> Mark Levin’s “punish lesson” for TRUMP’S questioning of CRUZ eligibility <<

I’m sure Levin was also turned off by Trump’s recent attack against Scalia.

He advocates total ban on muslim immigrants , hes the only candidate who says that without the slightest clue as to how he would actually enforce it.

After all, with big investments in Dubai and Istanbul he's all up for losing his shirt on those investments.

“They don’t want to see their PAC $$ disappear.”

Makes one wonder how much some of the Trump haters will lose when Trump locks it up.

Your "anchor baby" video shows Cruz giving a professional opinion that birthright citizenship is in the 14th amendment and has been interpreted that way by judges and will likely continue to be. His understanding is that it will take an Constitutional Amendment to override it, but he does favor overturning it. Your alleged "flip-flop" doesn't hold water.

I'll even post the manipulated video here so others can see and judge for themselves.

Yet Levin claims he’s neutral in the race. Levin is so in the tank for Cruz it’s ridiculous. Except Levin will have to get used to talking about President Trump startin Jan 2017.

Good that Trump supporters have each other because with all the underbussing that has gone on this week, there’s almost no one left in the pool but them.

In just over 24 hours, There’s Daniiel Horowits, Andrew Beietbart, Phil Robertson and now this.

I was on a long thread today and only 3 or 4 of the usual suspects were really nasty.

I felt good all day.

But I would not suggest going on the Trump worship thread and saying something negative. It wouldn’t be nice and besides it could get you killed.

Those threads are impressively long as Trump’s crowds are impressively huge. But if you go on them, you will find the same posters praising and agreeing with each other over and over again. So maybe you’ve got 30 posters posting 20 times each.

But, bless them, they are having fun.

I just hope that Trump can win if he’s nominated. I don’t see how anyone could lose to Hillary or the ancient socialist but a lot of people cannot stand Trump.

People can change like Ronald Reagan, who voted 4 times for FDR!

Reagan had been a liberal democrat in his earlier years and voted for FDR four times and admired FDR.

Your logic would have been to throw Reagan out and to the dogs.

Fortunately, people like nopardons and I refused to stab Reagan in the back. He won the nomination and became a great president in spite of being a democrat and really liking FDR and voting for FDR four times.

Mark Levin is 100% behind Ted Cruz. Which is awesome because he was also 100% behind Orrin Hatch, who is one of the most reliable conservative senators. Oh wait...

So are you saying Cruz STILL believes the US is obligated Constitutionally to grant unlimited anchor baby birthright citizenship to the babies of however many pregnant women can make it across the border—and all the chain migration, etc., that that entails?

Not to mention the fact that as governor, he okayed abortions, in California, before it was legal in all of the states. He was also the FIRST divorced and remarried president EVER !

Nobody is perfect, people change ( Hillary was once a hard core Goldwater girl ! ), and Reagan was the right man for his time, as Trump is this year.

“He is and has always been a 2nd amendment advocate”

Apparently you haven’t read Trump’s policy papers that you love to rant about either. Trump is and has been a gun-gabber, ON RECORD, at least up until 2013.

FROM TRUMP’S BOOK ‘The America We Deserve’. TRUMP WROTE: “The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse to even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.”

When asked by Ammoland if Trump still supports this position, Trump artfully dodged the question and only claimed (THIS IS ANOTHER DIRECT QUOTE) that he “still generally opposes gun control”.

ANOTHER DIRECT QUOTE FROM A TRUMP INTERVIEW: Trump recently claimed that ‘assault’ weapons should be banned by stating, “who needs them except criminals and police?”

HERE IS TRUMP’s 2012 Presidential position:

• Trump believes that assault weapons should be banned, “who needs them except criminals and police?”

• He wants a longer waiting period for hand guns, rifles and shotguns. We should be able to tell within 72 hours if a person has a record or mental issues that would prohibit ownership.
http://2012.presidential-candidates.org/Trump/Gun-Control.php

BELOW IS TRUMP’S 2012/2013 PRO-AMNESTY DOCUMENTED STATEMENTS:

“Romney’s “crazy policy of self deportation” cost him the Latino vote and the Republican party in general needs to “take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country.”

“Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.

“Republicans didn’t have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians,” the billionaire developer says.

“The Democrats didn’t have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren’t mean-spirited about it,” Trump says. “They didn’t know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind.”

So you’re saying that you “know” Trump has changed his position in last 2 years on just about every topic except

BELOW IS TRUMP’S PRO-SOCIALIZED SINGLE PAYER POSITION FROM 09/27/2015:

Pelley: How do you fix it?

Trump: There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, “No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private. But–”

Pelley: Universal health care.

Trump: I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.

Pelley: The uninsured person is going to be taken care of. How? How?

Trump: They’re going to be taken care of. I would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people. And, you know what, if this is probably—

Pelley: Make a deal? Who pays for it?

Trump: —the government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

HERE ARE SOME MORE PRO-SOCIALIZED SINGLE-PAYER QUOTES FROM TRUMP:

• “If you can’t take care of your sick in the country, forget it, it’s all over. ... I believe in universal healthcare,” Trump told CNN’s Larry King in October 1999.

• “I would put forth a comprehensive health care program and fund it with an increase in corporate taxes, “ Trump told The Advocate right before he dropped out of the race in February 2000.

• “The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than America. … We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan, as many individual states are doing,” Trump writes in his 2000 book The America We Deserve.

While bantering with David Letterman on Jan. 8, 2015, Trump voiced admiration for Scotland’s publically funded health care system and suggested that the problem with the Affordable Care Act is its implementation.

TRUMP SUPPORTED SINGLE-PAYER SOCIALIZED MEDICINE EVEN IN TEH 2016 DEBATES:
Trump responded: “As far as single payer, it works in Canada, it works incredibly well in Scotland.”

So please forgive us if we don’t all drink the Trump koolaid, but it is very hard to believe that Trump has changed nearly EVERY SINGLE LIBERAL position that he has held for the last 30 years, including positions that he has held ON RECORD as recently as 2012, 2013, 2015, AND 2016. Trump is a fraud, but I know facts are irrelevant to Trumpsters because they “feel” and “know” and “believe” that Trump has changed. Trump is applying for a job and telling the gullible what they want to hear. He is a LIAR and a SHAM!

“i was a hardline liberal atheist and i am now a Lutheran Christian...”

Just curious, did you turn your beliefs around in the last 3 months to 2 years?? Because Trump held his liberal beliefs ON RECORD as recently as 2012, 2013, & August 2015. Nobody changes that fast unless they are pandering to an audience. Please see my previous posts.
