CR Editors: Trump’s Questionable Political History

It is hard not to feel protective over Donald Trump while the political classes are seething and scornful.

They are unacquainted with such powerlessness. Control was never supposed to stray this far from their grasp. And their rage, manifested in every hapless attack on Trump and his supporters, actually seems to be improving the likelihood of that outcome they fear most of all.

How tempting, under these circumstances, to rush to his defense, as so many in the conservative movement have already done. The Donald has boldly made himself a standard bearer of unpopular (…within the political bubble), yet critical policy positions concerning national security, from the urgency of immigration enforcement to the potential implications of refugee resettlement.

He has played a pivotal role in dragging these and other issues from the shadows that the media might otherwise have not been so quick to shine a light on. He has made the case against birthright citizenship, spent countless campaign hours pledging to build a wall, and talked tough to the politically correct mafia at a time when its fascistic influence has left millions of citizens feeling voiceless.

Trump’s style and substance—brazen, unapologetic and quite popular—have upended equanimity on the left, leaving the “public intellectuals” screaming over one another to denounce his absurdity, the effrontery, the horror.

Yes, I agree people can change. One thing is certain though, I believe Trump has always been a good man of strong will and consideration for all...even the “little people.” Unfortunately, the elite would rather the little people didn’t exist because the non-elites have something called common sense. We MUST institute term limits and get rid of the life long politicians. They need to learn what it is to go to work.

I’m a #1 Trump #2 Cruz. I’ve spent most of yesterday and today angry at Cruz but I just read a really intelligent comment about the state of the race... If Trump and Cruz people keep smashing each other like this we may nuke both candidates allowing Rubio or JEB will walk through to the nomination...

*SHUDDER*

So lets debate, discuss, get passionate, but remember the GOPe are loving this.

His policy statements on taxes the second amendment and immigration do not support your thesis.

Have you read either of Trumps policy books? I think not. One in 2000 and one in 2015. Both are more conservative than anything I’ve seen you put out

Then Cruz has flip flopped on anchor baby birthright citizenship? He used to support it. There is a video of him doing that.

Meanwhile you continuously represent single payer as Trump’s current position. That is a lie. Lying in Cruz’ name will not gain him a single supporter.

The FR primary season circular firing squad is assembling right on schedule.

Hey, I have some issues with both Trump and Cruz. But they both are talking about issues that need to be raised and they both are showing the kind of fight that McCain and Romney never did.

If that isn't enough for the backbiters on this site, well screw them. We have had way too many circular firing squads in the past. This is our chance to turn the guns outward for a change.

CR editors are BFF with CRuz.

They’ve tag teamed with RightScoop (another CRuz arm site) to synchronize their simultaneous Trump “questionable past” hit pieces.

The editors....lol...desperation on display. Funny to watch.

They don’t want to see their PAC $$ disappear.

No he doesn’t. He has since said that single payer is not the way.

Sure you can find statements from a non politician about what he thinks should happen. That may or may not mean anything.

Try reading his two policy books written in 2000 and 2015. Read also his policy papers put out for this campaign.

Then check your motives

His policy statements on taxes the second amendment and immigration do not support your thesis.

I am aware of what he says now when he is trying to get the conservative vote and how it differs from his long history of supporting liberal policies i.e., "assault weapons" bans.

Believe he has changed if you choose, I don't.

Agreed. Compared to Rubio, Jeb, and the rest of that clown car give me Trump or Cruz!

By your reasoning, Cruz still supports birthright citizenship for anchor babies—a suicidal misinterpretation of the Constitution that will destroy the country if not remedied SOON.

Which sounds about right, actually.

Wrong you are. I note you did not answer my question about his policy books. I also note you do not mention his support for Reagan when the Bush family was trying to push HW

He is and has always been a 2nd amendment advocate

Your words offer no proof only opinion

I don’t think it means that he has a history as an actual politician. I think it means that everyone has a political history — I do, you do, etc. — what his past political ideas and affiliations have been.

I don't read books written by liberals.

He is and has always been a 2nd amendment advocate

Was he when he supported the "assault weapons" ban, even though there is no such thing?

Your liberal hero's past can be ignored if you so choose but you can't rewrite history, it is what it is.

Have a nice night.
