Donald Trump says Ted Cruz should leave the presidential race

WASHINGTON— Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Sen Ted Cruz’s eligibility to run for president Wednesday calling for Cruz to drop out of the race.

Donald J Trump
@realDonaldTrump
"Sadly, there is no way that Ted Cruz can continue running in the Republican Primary unless he can erase doubt on eligibility. Dems will sue!"

Trump recently warned the GOP that if Cruz becomes the nominee ,the party would be risking the White House. Trump claims Democrats would hold up the election in court, litigating whether or not Cruz is considered a natural born citizen.

Trump’s views on Cruz’s eligibility have changed throughout the campaign.

The first time he was asked about Cruz’s Canadian birth in 2013, Trump, the loudest ‘birther’ questioning the legitimacy of President Barack Obama citizenship, wasn’t sure if Cruz was qualified. Trump was still not convinced last March, months before announcing his own bid for president. By September, Trump said he was confident Cruz had the legal standing to run.

Trump could have went after Cruz from the start. But he didn’t.

This is a race and only one can win. Neither owes the other a loss just to be nice.

I hope this ends the delusion here that Trump & Cruz have been working together all along.

Yep. Cruz has been riding Trump’s coat tails since he emerged as the front runner after the murder of Kate Steinle.

Judges and legal scholars who would not have given the time of day to Obama Birtherism will suddenly decide this is a critical issue for the Republic. I can easily see a Federal Injunction being issued to stop Ted from taking the oath.

It won't matter. If the president-elect is found by a court to be ineligible, the office of the president goes to the vice-president-elect. So the key would be to choose a VP who the Dems would like even less.

"Hello? Sarah Palin? You doing anything for the next four years?"

Cite the source where Cruz said that, please?

“...Furthermore, the longer Cruz leaves it out there...”

I don’t believe Cruz has any standing to engage a court of competent jurisdiction.

He can’t sue himself...
He can’t pop down to the “Presidential Qualification Dept” and get a “running for president license”...
He can’t ask/beg/force any court to pre-review an imaginary lawsuit that some other candidate may or may not bring...

However, I do believe Trump has standing as a competing candidate. So if Trump is serious about it, he can do something. Will he be all talk and no action? It remains to be seen. In the meantime, it just makes him look like he’s flailing desperately at a rising competitor, grasping at straws, unable to compete on the laundry list of “yuuuge” issues the nation faces.

His motivation is to win.

I think he has stated that, and it is certainly clear.

He’s going for the jugular here.

Do you think the Democraps will use these endless videos against Trump? He’ll be a laughingstock by the time the Democraps get through with him. They can’t wait. And he will have no one to blame but himself.

I hear ya. Courts are a crap shoot. the country is in one heck of a mess, and I don’t see it getting any better. Oh well, it is mighty entertaining to study, and in the end, not so impotant. Family, God, and the hereafter, those matter. Politics - about a “5” on 0-100 scale.

What can Cruz do to satisfy you?

He’s released all pertinent birth certificates.

All I’ve seen here lately are canned, cloned arguments from both sides which people believe depending on which candidate they like. I’m no longer reading any of those.

” What Cruz supporter will change their mind because of this?”

It’s a court, not Cruz supporters, that will decide whether Cruz is eligible to be President.

Boy oh boy Cruz should have gotten this issue out of the way a long time ago.

I don’t know how Cruz could do that either. I keep seeing people say he should seek a Declaratory Judgment, but I have never heard of such a thing.

I don’t know if it exists, I’m completely ignorant of it, and I’d be super thankful if someone could shed some light on that for me.

Far as Trump goes, I don’t think he can establish standing. I don’t think anyone can establish standing until after Cruz is already elected president.

But even if Trump could establish standing, I don’t believe he would. He has no reason to make this go away. He would rather use it as a weapon against Cruz.

I think he is basically saying it’s up to Cruz to make this go away, and until he does he’ going to club Cruz with it all day long.

Whew!!! The butthurt-o-meter is pegged.

Welcome to the new world folks. It has a whole different look and feel to it. The good ol’ days of Republican candidates using smoke n’ mirror tactics, over promising and under delivering is officially f*ckin’ over.

God bless Donald J Trump for breaking the mold.

I was never going to vote for Trump in the primary.

If he wins the nomination I will vote for him.

But he has lost my respect.

Dems are lawless, Godless "end justifies the means" tyrants.

Of course we didn't hear a peep from them about Obama's eligibility in 2008.

They will go to war with this, no quarter. Cruz has to preempt this now with either a court decision or a senate resolution like McCain did. McConnell said he's not going to touch it.

Just damn. We have the most conservative candidate since Reagan and the dems are already out to totally destroy him.

Decide now Ted and get this over with.

As an aside, we have to pursue Article V now. If that doesn't work I guess it's water the tree of liberty again.

Do you think that Cruz is the only citizen to be born abroad? There are probably hundreds of thousands of people born overseas while their parents were serving. My two oldest children were born in Berlin, Germany while I was stationed there in the US Army. No politician what to piss off Military Veterans by telling them their children don’t have a birthright

I’m sorry, but I don’t get the point you are trying to make.

I’m not referring to veterans or their children, I am both by the way..I am merely saying that if Cruz needs congressional relief, they will probably turn a deaf ear. Cruz has made a number of enemies..calling the Majority “Leader” a liar will not endear him to the members of the club. Cruz, like Trump, is an outsider..he has burned too many bridges.
