Two U.S. Navy boats have been seized by Iran, with state media accusing the 10 crew on board of 'snooping'.
The Pentagon says it lost contact with two small riverine vessels in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday after they were captured by the Islamic republic's coast guard.
Ten American sailors were on board when one of the boats reportedly suffered mechanical issues and drifted into Iranian waters.

Once we get the sailors back if they don’t return the boats quickly we should JDAM them wherever they are so the Iranians can’t use them against us later.
Just like the top secret drone we gave Iran?
Or the weapons we ‘accidentally’ dropped to ISIS?
Or the arm we accidentally shipped to Cuba last week?
Seeing a pattern?
U.S. aircraft carrier acted provocatively after Iran arrested sailors - IRGC
DUBAI, Jan 13 (Reuters) - A U.S. aircraft carrier acted “provocatively and unprofessionally” for 40 minutes by carrying out manoeuvres in the Gulf after Iran arrested 10 American sailors, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Naval commander, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi, said on state television on Wednesday.
Separately, a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said the U.S. sailors were being interrogated, according to the Tasnim news agency. (Reporting by Bozorgmehr Sharafedin; Writing by Yara Bayoumy; Editing by Robeert Birsel)

“Seeing a pattern?”
As well as I understand the “happenstance/coincidence/enemy action” theory, sometimes you just have to chalk things up to gross stupidity.
Yeah, doesn't make much sense to me either. Wonder if some SEALS were doing some special ops on that Iranian island and the boat's engine out was the excuse for them being there? Sounds like a cluster* that some Navy brass cooked up too quickly. Of course we'll probably never know what really happened. Just hope no significant signals tech was captured.
Exactly. I said this too.
I don’t think that is the way it happened. Jerusalem Post is reporting that they seized the boats as a lesson to our troublemakers in congress.
No coincidence that the deal is supposed to happen in what? Five days or so?
Also some twitter folk are saying they don’t believe this story and they have the experience to say it.
I’d nuke the entire country. F**k em.
I haven’t seen any reference to her MOS or, in fact, to any details about any of them.
I agree that we will never know what really happened. The boat broke down story is really thin. Maybe they were trying to do an ex-fil on some special forces sneak and got caught en route or something.
I do NOT understand this.. How can this happen without some kind of a fight? Two US utility vessels against the Iranian Coast Guard? Are they THAT good? Any Military pros out there that can give us "no military background" people a clue?
If I had any confidence in Obama’s military, I would think that this could have been an elaborate distraction for something more important going on somewhere else in Iran. But if so, we won’t know about that, unless that goes very wrong as well.
“Late in the day, the Iranian frigate Sabalan departed from its berth and fired a surface-to-air missile at several A-6Es from VA-95. The A-6Es then dropped a Mark 82 laser-guided bomb into Sabalan’s stack, crippling the ship and leaving it burning.”
One plane, one bomb took out a frigate in 1988. That’s almost
30 years ago. Today I think its all just for show. I don’t think
we even need to be in theater anymore. We can do most of it
with drones.
That was a great story. Thanks for the link.
