What is nickelback?

Glad you asked, I didn’t know either. Now that I’ve seen the answer I know what it is but still don’t get it.
It is a rock band that has developed a rep as being lame and thus liking them makes you lame as well.
They are a very commercially successful rock band that have a distinctive sound; you know it is a Nickleback song when you hear it. This trait, however, has led to much derision for being very formulaic and the claim that every Nickleback song sounds alike. To be identified as a Nickleback fan is not a positive thing. Think ABBA in the 70’s. Lotsa people had their albums, but no one admitted it.
