Has Trump provided any explanation for his changing of stripes? Given so much as a “When I was young and stupid, I was, well, young and stupid.”?
“I never said that” is his go to phrase. If that doesn’t work, Trump talks in extremely vague language.
An example is his stance on Obamacare. When questioned about it, only a few months ago, he said he would replace it. Replace it with what? “Something terrific” He told us not to worry and that he would take care of everyone. What the hell does that mean? It means nothing. It is typical liberal flatulence that Trump expels. No conservative wants Obamacare replaced. Conservatives want it repealed! What is this mystical and magical “terrific” something? No one knows. Probably not even Trump. But people have, in their own minds, a vision of what that something terrific is so they project their vision onto Trump’s nothing statement.
As another poster pointed out to me, from Trump’s Art of the Deal: “My leverage came from confirming an impression they were already predisposed to believe.â€
No, Trump has never explained his supposed 180 degree change in worldview. Even now, being unable to speak the language of conservatism, he doesn’t even try. He just tells you everything and everyone is terrible and that he decided to do it himself.
And Mexico is going to pay for a wall. The Mexicans haven’t responded to that statement yet. They haven’t quit laughing long enough to do so.
