Thank These Trends for Donald Trump
The Daily Beast ^ | 1/11/2016 | Matt Lewis

How the Republican frontrunner took advantage of Americans' cynicism and distrust.

People are scratching their heads wondering how Donald Trump is still dominating the Republican primary race. Theories abound--a surprising number of which are astute, but incomplete. Arguably, the best takes on the causes of Trump-ism have come from Nicco Mele and Norm Ornstein, but most analysts have sought to push exclusive or simplistic theories.

The truth is, there is no one explanation for Trump's staying power, be it stagnant wages (which can be blamed on immigration, automation, and globalization), white fears of a minority-majority nation (see why immigration is such an easy target?), or any of the other catch-all ideas that have been put forward.

In reality, what we are witnessing is the culmination of numerous cultural and technological shifts, many of which have nothing to do with policy or ideology. In fact, I would argue that Trump's success could not possibly come about by virtue of merely one or two causes. This is the product of numerous trends, including fears about the rise of the so-called Islamic State widely known as ISIS, political correctness run amok, a GOP establishment that has largely ignored the concerns of the base, and an inept president in the White House.

This phenomenon is bipartisan, as is evidenced by the rise of Bernie Sanders, but it is much less disruptive on the Left. Republicans have been disproportionately hit for a variety of reasons--including the fact that these trends are coming to a head at the very moment the GOP is in the wilderness.

a GOP establishment that has largely ignored the concerns of the base,

And thereby inadvertently making a new kind of "independent" voter.

Good article - the best part (and this author gets it) is the media no longer has power to kill a candidate like Trump because they no longer are believed. Even if Trump loses, that will not change now.

The man has helped expose mass corruption from destructive trade policies, TO the destabilization of the Mideast to our lawless government sponsored violent borders and reckless, dangerous immigration polices.

America owes this man a big thanks, a standing ovation!

If Boehner and McConnell had acted like Republicans - small government, secure borders, national defense etc... against Obama, there would be no Trump. As those two were only following orders from the GOPe, the GOPe have only themselves to blame.

Yes, I thank God also.

In 2008 I was dismayed as this country ran a first term senator who was not even eligible against someone I privately considered a traitor.

In 2012 I was given the choice of a man I considered a liberal. I went all out to vote Republican anyway, top to bottom.

In 2014 I against supported all Republicans.

In 2016 I am faced with a country in tatters, illegal immigration overtaking my state, no jobs, and all of those Republicans I helped elect both in the state and nationally selling out to the highest bidder.

No more voting Republican. I will vote for Trump on whatever ballot he is on. Past that, I will vote against every republican on my ballot. I already know I’ll vote Libertarian for State Senator for Reid’s seat. Dennis Hof has said he will run as one.

The key thing that asshat Matt Lewis (believe me he is a big one) is the absolute failure of those he seems to bemoan as “wise”. They aren’t wise. Their solutions are proven failures. We are not 19 trillion in debt just because of Democrats but also Republicans who act like America is the piggy bank for the whole damn world and every lazy ass neerdowell that knocks on our doors or sneaks across our borders in the middle of the night.

We have endless wars which we lose not because we must but because our soldiers have to fight with their hands tied in war zones with a pentagon more focused on making lgbt feel welcome in the ranks than winning wars. Its this political correctness that is killing us, its driving us deeper in debt, its allowing an outright invasion on our southern border and now we are importing more crazy ass sharia believing muslims than ever before. Yet these warped orifices of the ruling class expect us to be respectful of these absolute failures who refuse to even follow the Constitution of this land then dare to try to admonish us the taxpayers as if we are the problem. They are lucky we don’t drag them into the streets at night and slather them with burning tar.

I can’t wait till I see the faces of these smug little pricks aghast at the Inauguration of Trump and Cruz.

A man recognizes the country is going down the toilet, offers solutions and you come up with an adolescent, juvenile, silly, immature like that?
