ABC Disavows New Hampshire Debate Co-Sponsor After Trump Complaints
Jan. 11 2016 11:18 AM
By Ben Mathis-Lilley
The New Hampshire Union Leader is the largest newspaper in New Hampshire and as such plays a major role in presidential primary politics. During this cycle, the paper (which endorses Chris Christie) has come out strongly against Donald Trump, condemning his candidacy in a front-page editorialâwhich predictably triggered a response from Trump, who called the Union Leader's publisher a "lowlife." The newspaper also co-sponsored a Dec. 19 Democratic debate in New Hampshire on ABC and was set to do the same for the network's Feb. 6 Republican debate. (The New Hampshire primary is Feb. 9.) But now ABC has dropped the Union Leader as a sponsorâand Trump is claiming it's because he demanded it. From Politico:
ABC is cutting off their partnership with the New Hampshire Union Leader for the Republican primary debate on Feb. 6, an ABC spokesperson has confirmed.
The paper was set to have a co-branding relationship for the debate, though it was going to be a comparatively minor role, without any representative on stage asking questions on behalf of the newspaper.
Trump: I am pleased to announce that I had the Union Leader removed from the upcoming debate.

Ronald Reagan: "I Am Paying for this Microphone" (1980) The Reagan v. Bush Debate Controversy
Trump = Reagan
I never like comparisons with Reagan and I would never say that someone is another Reagan.
But I can say this, I support Trump in 2016 as strongly as I supported Reagan in 1980 and 1984.
Trump wins again.
The difference is the media hated Reagan and worked against him.
That’s Trump’s specialty.
He wins.
What’s the difference?
Agreed. However, very hard to picture Reagan calling anybody a "lowlife".
I can’t help but get chills listening to Reagan put that newspaper debate moderator who Reagan was paying but was secretly backing Bush in his place. The crowd just knew it - a leader emerged. The other candidates running for president clapped along in support. The presidency of Reagan was ordained right there and then.
Agreed. However, very hard to picture Reagan calling anybody a "lowlife

Reagan Profanity Asserted
UPI
Published: March 30, 1985
WASHINGTON, March 29â President Reagan became ''angry and profane'' at Representative Bill Alexander, Democrat of Arkansas, when he telephoned the Congressman this week to seek support for the MX missile, a Congressional aide said today. The aide, Steven Skardon, said Mr. Reagan got angry when Mr. Alexander told him he should instead propose a balanced budget. Mr. Skardon quoted the Congressman as saying Mr. Reagan ''got angry and started cussing me,'' but did not disclose what words the President used other than to say they were ''angry and profane.'' A Reagan aide called the conversation ''confidential.''
In one case they are opposing, in another they are opposing and refusing to vet.
However, very hard to picture Reagan calling anybody a “lowlife”.
Different times, different problems, different leaders with different solutions.
BTW, the person in question is without a doubt (not a doubt in the universe, or in the multiverse) a lowlife.
You wrote “The difference is the media hated Reagan and worked against him.”
As opposed to the media luv’n Trump and working for him?
Either that or you forgot your ‘sarc’ tag. . .
I remember when the Union Leader was a conservative newspaper.
How times change.
.
Not breaking. Broke yesterday.
Good for Trump!
Good for Trump....the guy that owns the newspaper is a ‘low life’....if he thinks Christie is going to help him, ask the citizens of New Jersey how they like Christie....LOLOL...
Trump calls NH newspaper publisher 'a real low-life' - December 28, 2015
Exactly.
Interesting...
Thank you for that info, FWIW, I can picture Reagan using profanity a bit more now.
The Union Leader is up for sale.
Any takers here?
