In Donald Trump’s speech at Burlington Vermont, on 7 January, The Donald paid tribute to an armed woman who defended herself in New Hampshire, virtually next door.
Link to video

At 59:10, Trump says:

We have this woman in New Hampshire who actually said that I am going to vote for Mr. Trump.  She hears someone behind her.

We have to protect the Second Amendment, we have to protect it.

Trump goes on to say that the woman shot the man who attacked her, and the man did not die, he ended up in the hospital.  He says that he loves that woman, and continues to boost the idea of armed self defense.  Later, he talks about gun free zones on military bases.  He states that he will eliminate gun free zones on schools, and that he will eliminate gun free zones on  military bases on the first day of his presidency.  Trump says:

I will get rid of gun free zones on schools. You have to. And on Military bases, my first day, it gets signed.

If you listen to the video, it is pretty clear in context. He is talking about military bases. Then he adds that he will get rid of gun free zones on schools. The he says, "And on Military bases, my first day, it gets signed."

Trump has this stream of consciousness style of speaking. These are not stump speeches. There is no teleprompter. The speeches are not memorized, so the syntax is not absolutely clear.

The article goes on to show that the Democrats are all doubling down on gun control, with Sanders saying he is all for Obama’s gun control and more!

Hey it worked. Power to the people and all that. It helped that the local sheriff office noted the tremendous increase in carry permits issued to women in the past year.
And a daughter of past board president was said to tell members before meeting began. “you don’t protect our children we sure in the H____ will!”
It’s called community involvment in the heartland

Is it within a President's power to force recognition of carry permits from other states?

Would President Trump find a way to do this? Maybe withhold highway finds unless a state accepts any state's carry permit.

Even the thought of it sends a tingle up my leg...

Not by himself. But, the votes in Congress have been there for about a decade. If any Republican gets elected president, it is likely that this will happen.

Most likley if Trump or Cruz gets elected, as they both have it as part of their platforms.

They can enforce it Constitutionaly as per the Second Amendment, Fourteenth Amendment, and full faith clause of the Constitution; the statute could include a clause to refuse to distribute funds for law enforcemnt to states that do not comply.

It will happen. There is no logical reason to oppose it.
