There was a time in the 40s and 50s when Reno was the only gambling destination in the US. It was a boom town. Someone should do a series or a movie about it. The stories there are incredible.

We are moving in a few months. After we live in Central America and Mexico (my husband’s thing) for a while, we are thinking of moving to the Reno area. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

"It was a boom town"

Not really.

My parents were married in Reno in 1953.

Dad said the place was little more than scrub and a few drunks back then. Sure, there was gambling, but nothing like the casinos that emerged since.

Reno is STILL a small, very remote town. The nearest metropolitan area is Sacramento, 125 miles over Donner Pass.

All the land in Nevada (81%) is held by the US Government and deliberately kept vacant.
