Those are very strong words, dereliction of duty. Who was in charge at the time? Was the Admiral in the video in charge? Who should be charged? I realize ultimately the CIC is Bozo the clown; but there is a level of command leading up to him.
The Admiral said that when the Afghan team was swapped out, the chopper shouldn’t have taken off because the team didn’t know these 8 people. Who was responsible to give the order to NOT take off, or to refuse to work with these strangers?
Shouldn’t it have been the person in charge of Seal Team 6? Surely there was a ranking officer there who should have called this?
How about the pilot? Who was he? Was he part of the elite team? Who told him to go ahead and take off? And if that wasn’t the correct vehicle to be using for this type of mission, then who ordered that vehicle to be used? And if protocol demanded seperate vehicles for the team so they could be broken up, who was supposed to order that, and why wasn’t it done?
Guess I need to watch the movie when it comes out because this little ditty raised more questions than I’ve heard asked.
After, all ONE of the “new” 8 Afghan passengers needed to do was light off a IR tracker (beacon) inside the “replacement” helo.
Or have one already attached to the bottom of the helo, so the shooters needed to do nothing but push their triggers on an IR seeking SAM missile as the helo went overhead.
