LIVE THREAD: Donald Trump Rally in Rock Hill, SC @ Winthrop University Jan 8, 2016

Join us for tonight's Trump rally at Winthrop University @ 7 pm. We expect tonight to have a friendlier crowd than last night in Burlington, VT.

The Rally will be televised on Newsmax TV ( http://www.newsmaxtv.com/findnewsmaxtv/?ns_mail_uid=53827423&ns_mail_job=1648752_01082016&s=al&dkt_nbr=xcnwzw5n ) along with several other outlets. We've found the over all best to be the Fox Phoenix feed, which is HD quality and offerS an immediate replay. We like the young commentators too, who are 4 square behind our man, Trump. ( http://www.fox10phoenix.com/news-now )

AS the Rally starts I will post the best video streams. Keep in mind that the audio will always cut out, if any radio music is played to avoid the station paying royalties. This is almost always the case when they play Trump's Twisted Sister theme song, We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore.

There's been a growing following of Freepers who, in the past, have been watching these pretty much on their own. Of late, we're coalescing on a single thread for a lively discussion.

It's been fun. So please join us!

Many of us have been watching the Trump rallies from the beginning, either live or on replay. They are getting better and better, even though we've heard some of the same things over and over, (do you think he can name someone besides Carl Icahn for a change?) And what's making it even more fun is the excitement reflected in our postings. For example, many of us are talking about what we're preparing to eat and drink for the rally. For example, I'm fixin fresh Grouper, (pronounced "Groper" in honor of Bill Clinton.) I promise to not post any over sized photos tonight.

There's always an anti-Trump Troll or two who try to spoil our party, but we figure eventually in a couple more months we may all be behind the same guy. So, be cool.

Tonight's rally is in Rock Hill, SC @ Winthrop University. Here's a little background from Wikipedia:

LOCATION

Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South Carolina and the fifth-largest city in the state. It is also the fourth-largest city of the Charlotte metropolitan area, behind Charlotte, Concord, and Gastonia (all located in North Carolina, unlike Rock Hill). The population was 66,154 as of the 2010 Census.

Rock Hill is located approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of Charlotte and approximately 70 miles (110 km) north of Columbia.

Succeeding cultures of indigenous peoples lived in the Piedmont for thousands of years. The historic Catawba Indian Nation, a traditionally Siouan-speaking tribe, was here at the time of European encounter. Currently the only tribe in South Carolina that is federally recognized, its members live near Rock Hill.

DURING THE CIVIL WAR

Shortly before the American Civil War began a census had been taken of the population in York County, where Rock Hill is located. Half of the district's 21,800 residents were slaves, integral to local cotton production. The 4,379 white males in the county formed fourteen infantry companies; some of the men joined cavalry or artillery units instead. By the end of the war, 805 of these men were dead, and hundreds more were wounded. Men from Rock Hill and York County were involved in many of the major Civil War battles.

Due to its position on the railroad, Rock Hill became a transfer point for Confederate soldiers and supplies moving to and from the front. Since there was no local hospital, townspeople nursed sick and wounded soldiers in their homes. Refugees fleeing the coastal blockade or General Sherman's troops also came to Rock Hill.

Beginning in the spring of 1862, local area farmers switched from cotton to corn in order to produce more food. Records show that prices in Rock Hill changed frequently during the war, reflecting both shortages and the inflation of the Confederate paper money.

Confederate General P. G. T. Beauregard set up a temporary headquarters in Rock Hill on February 21, 1865.[6](p41) He ordered the roads to Charlotte blocked to try to prevent General Sherman from reaching the city; Sherman ultimately went in a different direction.

When General Lee surrendered at the Appomattox Court House, it was actually a future Rock Hill resident who was responsible for waving the white flag. Captain Robert Moorman Sims, a farmer from Lancaster County, was sent by General James Longstreet to inform Union troops that the Confederate troops wanted a truce.

CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Rock Hill was the setting for two significant events in the civil rights movement. In February 1961, nine African-American men went to jail at the York County prison farm after staging a sit-in at a segregated McCrory's lunch counter in downtown Rock Hill. Their offense was reported to be "refusing to stop singing hymns during their morning devotions." The event gained nationwide attention as the men followed an untried strategy called "jail, no bail." Rejecting bail was a way to lessen the huge financial burden which civil rights groups were facing as the sit-in movement spread across the South. As their actions gained widespread national news coverage, the tactic was adopted by other civil rights groups. The men became known as the Friendship Nine because eight of the nine men were students at Rock Hill's Friendship Junior College.

Later in 1961, Rock Hill was the first stop in the Deep South for a group of 13 Freedom Riders, who boarded buses in Washington, DC, and headed South to test the 1960 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court outlawing racial segregation in all interstate public facilities. When the civil rights leader John Lewis and another black man stepped off the bus at Rock Hill, they were beaten by a white mob that was uncontrolled by police. The event drew national attention.

In 2002, Lewis, by then a US Congressman from Georgia, returned to Rock Hill, where he had been invited as a speaker at Winthrop University and was given the key to the city. On January 21, 2008, Rep. Lewis returned to Rock Hill again and spoke at the city's Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday observance. Mayor Doug Echols officially apologized to him on the city's behalf for the Freedom Riders' treatment in the city.

The University comprises 6,170 students. Undergraduate students come from 34 states and 37 countries.[2]

Of the student population, 5,029 are undergraduate students while 1,141 are graduate students. The student body is 33 percent male and 67 percent female. The student body is 30 percent African-American students, and 60 percent white, non-Hispanic. There are 174 undergraduate international students enrolled.

WINTHROP UNIVERSITY

The University's average size of undergraduate lecture courses is 22 students. All freshman and second-year students are required to live on campus, unless they live at home with their parents or legal guardians.[

The best feed, in HD, is usually on Fox Phoenix.

We expect tonight to have a friendlier crowd than last night in Burlington, VT.

Was the Burlington crowd very hostile? I only saw the first 20 minutes of it or so.

Over all no, but about 2/3rds through the protestors started in. Trump gave them no opportunity to be heard. Keep in mind, they were waiting 6 to 8 hours in the cold for their Andy Warhol moment.

Seats about 6,100 for basketball. So depending upon the floor arrangement,
speaker podium, etc there may be upwards of 6,500+ inside.

Some of the disrupters took off their coats to reveal their Bern T shirts. So DT had them removed before they could get their coats. ;-). We are hoping car keys were in jacket pockets. Lol actions do have consequences!

It’s getting fun, plus I keep thinking how does he decide on these places? Would be great if he came to little old LaGrange, GA. I heard a rumor that he has a handle on Free Republic.

You’re welcome to do the posting some time if you’d like. I think it’s important that we have a single thread, esp for the evening rallies, cause it’s fun to share our comments.

Last night was fun. He’s really a very funny guy. Loved the “confiscate his coat, and tell him we’ll mail it back to them in two weeks.”

And I loved the, “Hey, security, step it up!”

I noticed the guy who was first in line wasn’t sitting up close, as I didn’t see his mug, unless he was to the side. He certainly didn’t say anything.

These are your basic sneaky cowardly John Wilkes Booth types. They probably stood in line at separate intervals. Came into the building together, planned their half @ss protest and left.

Also, I would think they are watching these people from the beginning, ie when they’re in line. For example, I think a guy or a gal in line by herself is rather suspect you would think.

Am so glad that you are posting. I do not post partly because all Internet is now done on cell and a small tablet.
It’s great the way it is. Why change it?

He knows how to have fun. Doesn’t take himself seriously. Am still laughing about him scolding the crowd for saying non PC comments. He knows how to reticule the opposition without being mean just humerous.

And this group. It’s like Trump says about his crowds. It’s just love. Love of country and her people.
