That was 2014. Take a look at the approval rates for the republican party just after or during the shutdown in the fall of 2013. An election at that time would have give control of congress to the democrats. It took restoring funding for the government and a year for the republican approval rates to improve to where they were before the shutdown.
The only thing a government shutdown would produce is a democrat congress. How’d that work out last time?
