I think being born to an American mother should be the only requirement. I’m just thinking about my wife having her premature baby. What if we had driven to see the Calgary Stampede and she had gone into labor and had the baby in Canada? Would anyone in their right mind say my child was not an American citizen?
A child born to an American mother in a foreign country, is FAR more American than a child born to a foreign mother in America in my opinion.
As an interesting side note, by my definition, Winston Churchill could have run for the office of President of the United States because his mother was American.
Clearly and likely indisputably that child would be an American Citizen. I also believe you would be responsible enough to fill out the proper paperwork and obtain a Consular Report of Birth Abroad so that you would have something besides a Canadian Birth Certificate and an assertion to prove it. Or, immediately obtain a Passport for the child via the same process.
These things are also done post facto up to the age of 18 years.
But, did the Cruz take that route...or just go to Texas 4 years later and start living a normal life?
We should require documentary proof for EVERY POTUS candidate.
Personally i believe the qualification to be elected for POTUS and vp should be the most stringent possible, with no gray area at all. No allowances for race, position or faith.
You either fall within the definition...or not.
Its about loyalty, PERIOD.
People just cannot get it into their thick skulls, its about patriotic loyalty, it has to be pure as can be.
That’s the thing, no one thought Winston Churchill could run for president. In fact he was granted honorary citizenship later in life.
