The law is that you need an adult for statutory rape.
Age of consent in Arizona is eighteen. Both minors equals no statutory rape.
The prosecutor here will need a corrupt judge though, because he only gets to dismiss so many jurors and the defense gets to dismiss a lot more. Or he can charge the mom with something minor the jury might go along with.

No word on any father figure in this scenario. Given it was Thanksgiving, I bet this mom was preoccupied in preparing, serving, cleaning up after this celebrated holiday feast and then collapsed exhausted from the effort to provide a traditional celebration for her 'family unit'. This daughter likely took advantage of her mother's distractions by inviting the lad into her bed.
Given mom's further utterance that she was
"going to get her cousins to take care of him."also appears to suggest that there is no father figure in the picture.
Can't help but agree with DonaldC...$10 fine - which her daughter should be paying - and be done with it.
I wonder if the violent reaction of the mother was due to her having previously warned both her daughter and the guy about such activity. While I tend to sympathize with the mother, I am rather sure that her daughter will not stay celibate for long. She will just be more careful about being caught.

That’s just plain ridiculous when by then and probably long before that incident, the girl was getting biz-ay behind Mommy’s back. Yeah, a great job of “protecting her daughter” when the perfect little angel will probably do it again and again, knowing how wonderful a thing it is. The mother did NOTHING to protect her daughter and she FAILED as a parent.
This is impossible for us now, but arranged marriages in a tight knit community have an advantage in that they allow for sexual union at an earlier age, when the young husband and wife’s sexuality is awakening and powerful. “Be fruitful and multiply”!
We’ve rigged it so that fornication is de rigueur. It’s the phony do gooders in every family who encourage putting off marriage for college and career. By then the genie is out of the bottle and what was intended by God for one person has been spread around town.

There’s more. In one Calif. case the mother warned the daughters’ 18 year old boyfriend against doing it with her 16 year old. As an adult he is now a sex offender-same as a violent rapist. Won’t go away.
