NO NO NO: Ted Cruz is NOT flip-flopping on ethanol
Right Scoop ^ | 1/6/16 | Staff

Ted Cruz's critics are doing everything they can to try and hurt him among voters in Iowa, even if it means accusing him of flip flopping when that's absolutely not the case.

America's Renewable Future has a new post titled "Senator Ted Cruz Listens to Iowa Farmers, Supports Renewable Fuel Standard Through 2022".

In that post they play audio of Ted Cruz answering a question about ending ethanol subsidies, where he said he supports a 5 year phase out of the subsidy. People have done the math starting at 2017 and concluded that the subsidy would remain until 2022.

Heres the audio:...

Of course, his critics are now saying that Cruz is pandering, that he's gone soft, even flip flopped on ethanol in order to get the Iowa vote. But this is simply not the case.

Once again, Amanda Carpenter steps in to explain that Cruz's support for a 5-year phase out is simply nothing new:

"I just listened to the Cruz audio. He said what he's always said. RFS should be a 5 year phase out. It's what his legislation said in 2014"

Even liberal reporter Dave Weigel is flummoxed by those alleging that Cruz is flip-flopping

"Don't understand the "Cruz flip flopped on RFS" charge. He's always been for a 5 year phase out. If he takes office in 2017, that ends 2022. It honestly feels like a pressure group trolled Cruz and asked reporters who don't cover ethanol (uh, hi) to fall for it."

I might appropriate that for future tag line material.

Romney born in Mexico, McCain in Panama, Goldwater in Arizona BEFORE it was a State.

It’s settled,— accept for wuss Trump who’s running scared, and is afraid to fight Cruz straight up.

I like it. Plug it in! It was Jonah Goldberg couple of months ago. Here is some cheer from the PPP NH poll:
Trump disapproval at 44%. Cruz beats Trump head to head:
Q21
Who would you prefer as the Republican
candidate if you had to choose between just
Ted Cruz and Donald Trump?
46%
Ted Cruz
.........................................................
39%
Donald Trump
.................................................
15%
Not sure

No! You guys still don’t understand! Trump is controlling the media agenda! He is also giving little PR problems to Ted Cruz to see if Ted will be a suitable VP! So far Ted is doing just fine! Go Trump/Cruz 2016! :-)

On the campaign trail did Cruz say "I support a five-year phase out of ethanol subsidies" or did he say "I don't support ethanol subsidies"?

And you can't see both statements as being true?

There is no difference.

He doesn’t support ethanol subsidies and has presented a timeline to get rid of them.

First of all, spending bills initiate in the House. Not in the Senate or in the Executive branch. President Cruz would have to entice the House to cut the subsidies, starting with the budget for 2018. 2022 is a reasonable goal to accomplish the phase out of ethanol subsidies.

ALL guns and knives are out for Cruz...his religion, his supposed flip-flops, his actions as being unpresidential (for standing up and saying the very things we, the people, who would love to be able to...but do not have a floor to stand on?)

Well, I think he can handle them and I believe that most people realize by now that there is a war against any conservative. Hopefully it will drive his favor up in the polls.

Of course he is. /trumpfolk

He’s always said he’s for a phase out. He’s still for a phase out.

It’s not uncommon for candidates to change their minds or positions, but it’s really pathetic to see their unhinged supporters try to tell you that they didn’t.

So we should assume that when Trump supports ethanol subsidies, he means forever? If he comes back with some time limit we should say he's flip flopping? Since I follow Cruz I know what he said. Should I believe Cruz telling me what I already knew or some idiot trying to tell me he changed his mind?

All I’m waiting for is the next debate when Trump has to deal with Cruz face to face and defend this sleazy, little girl attack.

It will be just like the “maniac” apology-— weak, pathetic and humiliating before a national audience.

Did it stay in Breaking News? I don’t know, because I don’t have the sidebars. I like it better just scrolling through “all.”

VinL, you have to lighten up if you are going to make it until November! Get some more popcorn and enjoy the show! It will be great to have the ultimate ticket standing side by side on the stage at the next debate! Go Trump/Cruz 2016! ;-)

Trumpies will fling anything about Cruz against the wall to see if it sticks.

They’re as factually challenged as their candidate.

Ted Cruz was, is, remains, and will continue to be the best Constitutional conservative candidate in the field.

Still more pathetic to witness Trump supporters swallowing spoon-fed processed propaganda and then belching.

Done. :)

Trump can’t beat Hillary and he would never get wide support.

His negatives are high for good reason. He just can’t control his mouth.

So you actually think that Cruz flip-flopped on this?

YES or NO?

Which is it, be-baw? Yes, or No? Did Cruz flip-flop here on ethanol?

All and be-baw -- I want to know if be-baw believes that this signifies that Cruz changed his mind/position on ethanol.

Be-baw, do you think that the story here confirms that Cruz changed his mind/position on ethanol?

YES or NO?
