Ted Cruz's Surge is Real: Now Leads in California
PJ Media ^ | 01-06-2016 | Michael van der Galien

Posted on 01/06/2016 6:53:40 AM PST by Michael van der Galien

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz not only leads in Iowa, but also in California:

A new Field Poll in California finds Ted Cruz has surged ahead of his GOP presidential rivals with 25%, followed by Donald Trump at 23%, Marco Rubio at 13%, Ben Carson at 9%, Rand Paul at 6%, and Jeb Bush at 4%.

And that isn't the only good news in this poll for Cruz. It also shows that he's now twice as likely to be GOP voters' second choice. This means that he will continue to surge if (or when) some of his rivals get out of the race, which they'll undoubtedly do once they lose (big-time) in Iowa.

Cruz's surge comes despite relentless attacks from his rivals for the Republican nomination and establishment-friendly columnists like the Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin.

And that proves that 2016 will be different from other years. Until this election season, negative attacks from establishmentarians against real conservatives were always successful, which is how moderates like John McCain and Mitt Romney ended up being the Republican nominee. Not anymore. The establishment tried to take out Donald Trump, which only resulted in him rising in the polls. Now they're going after Cruz, and the results are the same. He's stronger than ever before and actually seems to be relishing the attacks.

Regardless, the assault on Cruz will almost certainly continue: the establishment doesn't have another card to play. Attempts to burnish their own appeal aren't working because conservatives have completely had it with them.

It's always pleasant to talk to someone who wants to be rational about their choice. I like Cruz because his record of conservatism combined with his fight against the GOP leadership. That is what I want to see running Washington. I think Trump would be good in that regard too, but his record on conservatism is somewhat short. Doesn't mean that he doesn't believe what he says today, it's just that in the past he hasn't always demonstrated the same beliefs.

But if I can't get Cruz, then Trump, assuming he does what he says, will be fine.

“the rudeness of Trump people against the supporters of the conservative in the race have turned me sour on Trump.”

Yes, they appear to be working overtime to mimic his bombast and buffoonery.

except now that trump has started trashing Cruz, I guess all bets are off, right?

Even though Trump isn't my first choice, I used to defend him when the left would slime him.

No more. He's not worth my time.

Let me 'axe' you somethin' ok? (get it? 'axe' you somethin'? lol)

Do you really think that Trump is "trashing" Cruz?

I have no intention of trashing Cruz whatsoever, and you can take that to the bank.

Yes, I get. :)
Do I think it is? No, not really. I figure it’s typical campaign BS. Trump is starting to feel the heat from Cruz. He’s an apparent front runner going after a competitor. But given that he said the opposite just 3 months ago...AND it has nothing to do with any of the issues AND it’s already been resolved, he’s just trying to cast aspersions to cast doubt... it just smacks of scumminess. Just my .02 worth of course.

But I also know that if the roles were reversed, Cruz would be getting excoriated for saying one thing in Sept and the exact opposite now. And I also know that the trumpeters would be losing their collective minds, if the roles were reversed.

....."if Cruz’s surge is real why are his crowd not as large as Trump’s?".....

If crowd size is a determining thing then Bernie would be the demorat favorite not Hillary.... crowd size goes double for Trump since there are plenty of people who go to see him simply for the spectacle or to be near a celebrity, not because they have any designs on voting for him.

Further Cruz and Trumps campaign's are operating very differently...Cruz speaks to the grassroots people about the issues at length and in smaller groups, which is by the way very effective, that people want to hear and know where he stands and why....Trump rally's people using Buzz words they want to hear..repeatedly. Polls and crowds are Trumps touch stones.......the Constitution and Freedom from the Washington Cartel are Cruz'z touch stones.

Cruz has thus far managed the Trump relationship with considerable 'tactical' restraint... He has a strategy and has stuck to it.... It's an important one for a President to have.

This past summer, Trump raised questions about Cruz's Canadian birth and whether he was constitutionally eligible to be president. Trump was asked I asked would he bring that up again, which he responded saying.... "I'll only bring it up if he's a final two,". So he has indeed done just that recently.

Cruz isn't going to give in to the establishment the way Trump is by getting into a public fight...which is how he gets the press to cover his campaign, but Cruz has avoided opportunities for a public fight though Cruz is not shy about calling out apostates... He's done it on the Senate floor and at countless conservative gatherings.

Recall that Cruz said in an interview with The Brody File, he has 'a plan' to begin highlighting, "policy differences" between him and Trump...."There are plenty of policy differences and there may well come a time when we start highlighting those more,"... One thing we should never dismiss is Cruz likes to debate, and when he does, he doesn't simply speak arguments alone. He dismantles the positions and questions the motivations of his opponents. So Trump will have tremendous difficulty standing with Cruz if he ever gets a hold of his mouth enough so he can actually do a debate.

'Cruz is demonstrating a skill a president must have'.... avoiding a confrontation for a larger goal.

You make good points FRiend, and one of those two candidates, Cruz or Trump WILL be the GOP nominee, I have no doubt of that.

I am convinced that if Trump prevails at the convention, he will ask Cruz to be his VP running mate, and although many will argue to the contrary, I happen to believe that if Cruz ended up as the nominee, that he WOULD ask Trump to be his VP, and Trump would *accept*. I know the usual arguments about his ego not allowing him to take the 'second banana' position, but I think that Trump's love of Country would override any personal considerations like that.

And quite frankly, I could see Trump playing 'Joe Biden' to a President Cruz (although certainly more intelligent), and everyone would say (as they've said about 'stand up Joe'), "well, you know Donald, he's liable to say anything, but he's a good guy!".

We need the best we've got in the White House, and those two gentlemen are it.

If Cruz's surge is real why are his crowd not as large as Trump's?

Because the correlation between crowd size and electoral viability is roughly the same as the correlation between barometric pressure and the price of sorghum futures?

When’s the California primary again? November 2020?

(Yes, know it’s June 7). In any event, it’s a long, long way off. Trump will likely have secured the nomination by then.

Agreed.. I actually like Trump, but not the FR Trumpers!

Well, I used to like Trump also. But the more I’ve listened to and seen him in action, the less I believe he is at heart a constitutional conservative. I think he actually has no “center” and no core beliefs beyond his own narcism and boastfulness. I reached my limit with him this past week—he didn’t “wear” well.

I've read some of your posts. Are you sure you want to go there?
