Perhaps in the last few weeks, but I have not seen the quote or the link on Free Republic, and I'm hearing this for the first time.
Please remember that immigration has been my number one issue for more than 10 years at Free Republic.
Two years ago, right here at Free Republic, I published the unpleasant facts about Cruz's immigration policies - namely, the 2013 You Tube videos, the 2013 Texas Tribune article about his speech in El Paso, and the 2013 interview with a Conservative columnist for the online Houston Chronicle.
Now, if you are telling me that Cruz has had a 180 degree change of heart since 2013, if you are telling me that Cruz is utterly sincere about his new immigration policies, which appeared for the first time about four months ago, well, that's a different subject, and I will be happy to learn from you.
However, if you want to debate what Cruz's immigration policies used to be in 2013, well, you will be debating an expert, and you will not enjoy experience, like several dozen other Freepers who have tried the same thing with me.
"It was that close to being passed... and I think I can say this with integrity. Without the vigorous opposition of Ted Cruz, this bill likely would have passed." - Sen. Jeff Sessions
One other data point: In 2012, Newt was getting MUCH bigger crowds than Myth, even through the Florida primary. To the point where Myth assigned hacks like Jason Chaffetz (whose face makes me want to throw something at the TV to this day) to heckle him at his campaign events.
Hank
The Numbers USA questionnaire? You can't be serious.
All Cruz did was check answer boxes on a questionnaire and mail it in before the Republican Primary in 2012. He had NO legislative record at the time.
After winning his U.S. Senate seat in 2012, did Cruz introduce any legislation in the Senate such as anti-Birthright citizenship, or universal E-Verify, that was consistent with the views he claimed on the questionnaire? Of course not. The first Bill we saw was Cruz-Sessions a couple months ago.
Re: “I don't know how many times it has to be explained that the amendments Cruz offered to the Gang of 8 Bill were a parliamentary tactic to expose the Dems true motivation, citizenship for illegals.”
You can't be serious. Cruz waited more than TWO YEARS before he claimed it was a parliamentary tactic.
And why did he need a tactic? Everyone in the country knew what the Democrats were up to.
Re: “Session did the same thing.”
Did what? And when?
Re: “Without the vigorous opposition of Ted Cruz, this bill likely would have passed.”
What? The bill passed the Senate with a two-thirds majority, 68-32, in June 2013. The House refused to act on it, thanks to vehement opposition by House Conservatives.
What exactly is the “s/” tag supposed to refer to?
Anyway, I voted for Romney, and for every other Republican nominee since Nixon.
Also, the idea that Conservatives stayed home in 2012 is false.
Obama lost 5.5 million white voters in 2012.
Romney gained 1.4 million white voters compared to McCain.
The 4.1 million white voters who stayed home in 2012 voted for Obama in 2008.
Indicated that she signed the statement...p> Also, the idea that Conservatives stayed home in 2012 is false.
WRONG....the conservatives sat on their asses because Romney wasn't their guy....it is beyond dispute.
So once a candidate says anything he owns it? That is really stupid. Everything Trump says has been said before. I heard "we need to build a wall" a long time before Trump said it.
We all know ... it's not what you say but how you say it
(that's why I have no friends)
So, though true, we heard it before ... WE heard it .... this time America hears it
And that is political capital
I agree that Trump is the wall guy, but it is part of Cruz's immigration plan and he still has to get it out there because the press is not going to do it for him. Cruz was accused of flip-flopping on ethanol today even though he met with the press and told them exactly what he said today a year ago. He has to run ads to give his positions where the press runs with Trump's position for free.
I don't believe the polls that show close spreads or even Cruz ahead
There IS time, but the effort would have to be tremendous to even match the enthusiasm Trump has garnered
You believing the polls or not doesn't matter. We are close to actual voting. That will prove or disprove the polls. If Cruz is a flop then he doesn't win. I think the head to head Cruz vs Hillary polls indicate he could hold his own against her and I think the debates would seal the deal. So I don't think "he can't win" is a valid argument for voting against him. I'm getting old and would love to see one more conservative President for my children and grandchildren.
Hell ... Linda Graham cracker would mop the floor with the beotch.
