BOONE, Iowa — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday morning launched a six-day swing through Iowa, looking to close the deal with voters in the state where he bas become the leader of the Republican presidential pack.

“This is January,” the Texan told supporters crammed into a Christian bookstore here. “The time for the media bickering back and forth – that’s come and gone. The time for all the games – that’s come and gone. This is now the time that the men and women of Iowa step up and make your decisions.”

Cruz’s remarks came at the first stop on a 28-county bus tour of Iowa, where he has eclipsed billionaire Donald Trump in recent polls and become a growing target for his GOP rivals. Speaking with reporters before his event in Boone, Cruz wielded the influx of attacks as a badge of honor.

“Two weeks ago, every candidate in the field or just about every candidate in the field was attacking Donald Trump,” Cruz said. “Now just about every candidate in the Republican field is attacking me. I guess something has changed.”

In his gaggle with reporters, Cruz also weighed in on the news of the day: the takeover of a federal building in Oregon by armed militia members. The GOP has been relatively quiet about the conflict, which flared up Sunday.

“Every one of us has a constitutional right to speak our minds, but we don’t have a constitutional right to use force and violence and threaten force and violence on others," Cruz said. "And so it is our hope that the protesters there will stand down peaceably and there won’t be a violent confrontation."

With less than a month until the first-in-the-country nominating contest, Cruz urged Iowans to commit to caucus for him. In his remarks, he asked them to vote “10 times” — not literally, he clarified, explaining that he would like each Iowan to find nine other people to support him.

“Now look, we’re not Democrats,” Cruz joked. “I’m not asking you to commit voter fraud.”

Sen. Cruz knows how to be a front-runner. He is wearing it well.

Interesting itinerary... almost like he made a chalk line from New Albin to Hamburg and opted to stay on one side. He will avoid the worst of the state's congenital dems.

He’s got style. He’s going to go all the way. He’s decent and calm. Challenge him and he’ll debate you and show you why you’re mistaken. He doesn’t lose his cool and lash out with juvenile behavior.

Looks like he’s going to win.

I wonder where Trump will place.

IMHO, Trump will place a close 2nd. Trump and Cruz will scarf up the great bulk of the delegates to be awarded. This should, hopefully, set the plate for the remainder of the primary season and place the GOPe in a small minority.

That’s what I’m hoping for.

I like Cruz and would definitely support him. I’m just concerned whether he can defeat the Hildebeast. He’ll need to take his gloves off.

Yep. Trump will do well but probably second place. Many of his supporters at the caucus might be first time caucus goers and even a few Democrats crossing over. Remarkable actually. Trump isn’t my guy but he certainly is good for this race.

He’ll take the gloves off when she is his opponent. Campaign for the race you are running, right now it is nomination.

I understand. He will need to channel Trump to win against her. He will need to blister her with Benghazi/Libya/Bubba/900 FBI files/Whitewater/Hillarycare/Blumenthal...well, you get my drift.

If he doesn’t beat Trump what is the point?

Such a contrast. It is wonderful to have a decent Christian man running for President, who knows what he believes, why he believes it, and who fearlessly defends Christian Conservatism.

And pandering to the ethanol crowd and their cherished subsidies - mandating using food for a fuel inefficient gasoline additive, while managing to not only increase the price of gasoline nationally, but also raise the price of food nationally and worldwide. Talk about your GOPe guys!

And yes they all stink.

Well, he needs to beat Trump. But if Trump comes in 2nd in Iowa and wins New Hampshire, watch out.
