Liberals are the arbiters of individual destiny, so the firearm is evil(and must go), while the weed is not.

The majority of those deaths are from prescription drugs, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse: http://www.drugabuse.gov/related-topics/trends-statistics/overdose-death-rates
