An enterprising producer at Columbia took the original acoustic version of this tune and re-mixed it with a folk-rock bed. Paul Simon was horrified, but it was the beginning of a great career.

This was the year that Lyndon Johnson ramped up the war in Vietnam and the country took a right turn in the congressional elections.
