But not as nervous as this incident would make me from that time forward.
Mr. niteowl77
yup, seen it also.
Carnival is a ghetto compared to other lines. Worst cruise I’ve ever taken.
I can see this coming as part of a safety class in the future. Subject: Lockout/Tag out.
Cruisers beware: cruise ships are foreign territory, usually some 3rd world foreign territory:

Odd. I actually know a cruise ship electrician who was badly injured in an accident while working on an elevator. While going through therapy it was unclear if he’d ever be able to work again. He recovered, but was stuck on shore after that.
One of my bodyparts just puckered up while reading your story. Quite horrifying to visualize.
With over 40 years in the elevator industry, I always shudder when I see kids ‘playing’ on/with an escalator, especially with clueless parents right there.
Even with all the safety devices in the latest codes, they are still meat slicers..
And as to this incident, I’d need to know where the ship was built and under whose code the elevator was installed to even make an educated guess beyond the most obvious - no lock out-tag out, and failure to push/flip any safety switches (aka stop buttons). Many countries have very lax safety codes for their vertical transportation devices.
I saw Kolchak. Look for a werewolf
Me and my crew were working below a dam in the water. Each of us had to put our own locks on the lock/out that activated the dam - even though we were all working together. I still was a bit spooked! IIRC they also had a loud siren that would go off if anything went wrong on the dam.
