All professional fonts contain glyphs designed to be quote marks. They are distinctive from the prime marks.
The point is on a forum where people regularly copy and paste from articles containing proper quotes, this forum's code, in my opinion, should be improved to display quote marks properly. My point is that in the long run this forum could fix the problem once, and save the users the trouble of repeatedly replacing a properly used character with an improperly used character.
I'm not complaining. Ive been aware of it for a long time and fixed postings where needed. I had no plans to bring it up.
Since it did come up, though, I pointed out correctly, even though most people think that key - to the right of the semi-colon/colon key - is the quote key, it is in fact, NOT. That demonstrate it is FreeRepublic's code that seems to be the problem, not posters or writers of articles.
Petty little snap backs like yours impede progress toward getting the issue fixed.
