More ethnic differences maybe than physical areas My Italian family who married in use Pops. They are from NJ. Also call Coke a soda. Here a soda is made with icecream and has whipped cream and cherry on top. Others call it pop. Boy this could be confusing for a person learning the language

We’re german/Irish/ and use daddy to face but dad in third person. Only my southern neighbor references her father as daddy in third person. We laugh about it. Loved them to pieces! Takes Great men to be a daddy or Pops!

I still refer to my father as "DADDY" and I'm oldish. In conversation, I may also say "my father"; though.

The eastern seaboard says "soda".

The midwest says "pop" for the same thing.

We also call both an ice cream soda ( unless it's a "BLACK COW"...Rootbeer with chocolate ice cream and whipped cream on top ) a soda, as we do Coke, Pepsi, gingerale, rootbeer, etc.! :-)

Then there are frappees and eggcreams.
