OK I finally found it, proof that the Imams from the local mosques had been telling the muslims in the area to stay away.

Two prominent Muslim imams in the Dallas area on Monday denounced the violence in Garland and called on community members not to be baited into anger by events like the Muhammad Art Exhibit.

As a Muslim community we need to acknowledge hate groups and not get baited, said Imam Zia ul-Haque Sheikh, the leader of one of North Texas largest mosques. They are trying to provoke the Muslims into doing something wrong.

Imam Zia, who leads the Islamic Center of Irving, added, The public really needs to know that we stayed away from the event and did not give it publicity.

So, right there is the admission that the local Imams advised to stay away from the Art Exhibit.

PRIOR to the exhibit.

Not as part of denouncing the violent attack.

Not so they would not give it publicity, it already had plenty.

Also here...

He and other Muslim leaders in North Texas had urged followers to ignore the event as a transparent provocation,

Five bucks says they knew something was about to happen because they had NO problem with not being so above-it-all at the Stand with the Prophet rally just a few weeks earlier.

They were there in force, in full counter-protest mode.
