Kentucky Reduces the Minimum Wage (for state workers)
Economic Policy Journal ^ | December 25, 2015 | Robert Wenzel

"Wage rates ideally would be established by the demands of the labor market instead of being set by the government" he said.

"The minimum wage stifles job creation and disproportionately impacts lower skilled workers seeking entry-level jobs," Bevin wrote in his executive order.

Excellent! If he continues to roll back other leftist idiocy in Kentucky, he’ll make a compelling candidate for President after Ted Cruz’s two terms.

Do any state jobs pay minimum wage?

This is how it works. Let the states decide their own course, and leave the Feds out of it.

Ideally, wages would not forced downward by millions of illegal aliens lured to the US by employers willing to employ them illegally.

Re: “”Wage rates ideally would be established by the demands of the labor market instead of being set by the government.”

Great idea....

Except when your government artificially increases the size of the labor market by importing millions of low skill workers from foreign countries.

I support the $15 minimum wage.

I’ll support free market wages when the government stops supporting massive legal and illegal immigration.

Kentucky is already a Right to Work state - modified. Any KY county can choose to be RTW at it’s own discretion. Most that have chosen to be RTW border RTW states. BTW, some of those counties are heavy Dem counties run by common sense pols.

This was just another of several illegal executive orders Beshear put into place that Bevin is rolling back. Beshear unilaterally ordered this increase without the approval of the General Assembly and shifted funding in the budget to pay for it.

Bevin is off to a very good start and has put a lot of very good people in charge of the various departments. He just has to watch his back against the younger Beshear who is the AG.

They are passing RTW ordinances which is currently in litigation as to whether or not they have the authority to pass them. There is no actual state law for RTW or law specifically allowing localities to pass them - hence why taking control of the state House of Representatives is so critical.

The long extinct studio production floor crew job did. I had that job right out of a television production program. Good job other than what it paid. I learned tons of stuff and met some interesting people.

Local ordinances are fine, unless overturned by State Courts. Judge should rule soon, one would think. Of course, then appeals come in to the picture...

Last I heard one Dem. Representative switched to Republican Party in Ky. Others rumored to. Not sure how they will vote on RTW....

I support the $15 minimum wage.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Then by all means pay your employees $15 per hour, just don’t try to force me to do the same. That would be so liberalish.

While cutting the pay of government employees is always a good thing, Bevin seems to want to do even more. In the order, Bevin hinted that he would prefer the state have no minimum wage at all: “Wage rates ideally would be established by the demands of the labor market instead of being set by the government,” he said.

Sure...You can probably get some illegals in to do the job for 5 bucks an hour, or less, you scoundrel...

Couldn't say...I know nothing of the guy...One thing is for certain tho...He knows there are far more people looking for work than there are jobs...And the reason for this is illegal immigration...And he's willing to use that for justification for lower wages...

I see this issue from the perspective of American-born wage earners, not the wage payer.

I suggest that you, a self-focused business owner, should end your self-serving support for massive legal and illegal immigration.

Can't make a profit paying $15 an hour?

Then change your business plan. Or improve your business management. Or invest in labor saving machines and software.

If you don't know how to make a profit without cheap, docile, foreign labor, then pack up your business and move it to a foreign country.

Let’s face it, you want a mandatory $15 hr. wage. That’s among the most liberal things I’ve ever seen posted at F.R.

Go to DUmmyland with your liberalism.

Let's face it.

You want to preserve massive legal and illegal immigration to enhance your own standard of living.

Unfortunately, your decision to import 20 million Socialist voters from foreign countries is now going to destroy your standard of living.

I don't need to go to DUmmyland.

Your employees are already there. And they just voted themselves a big pay raise.

Your greed has destroyed the Republican Party.
