Same here. IIRC recently saw articles showing same so it would not be surprising. The question remains -why did he even feel the burn to be there?

That one's easy. For years everyone has been saying the GOP is the party of next in line. He could make a case for being next in line due to his 2008 performance. Same for Santorum (2012). I suspect that Huck might have run in 2012 if Palin didn't freeze the field by waiting until October to say no.
Huckabee was polling in double digits early on. He had a bold tax plan. He thought the evangelical/Iowa vote would stick with him. People around him aren't going to tell him to his face he was old news. Of the field, his entry made sense. Even now, he is plausible for a VP spot, though not a front-runner.
