The voucher program was instated, and ferociously defended by the Jindal administration.
And it will no doubt be dismantled by the new Democrat governor, John Bel Edwards, whose first appearance after the November election was at a gathering of teachers’ union muckety-mucks.

So not only couldn’t the cashiers use the calculators to figure out 10 percent, the managers couldn’t tell them how to use the calculators and the programmers didn’t even program the cash registers correctly to start with.

Then if people have special religious needs or want specially grown organic foods they could go to private high end grocery stores similar to Halal stores, Asian markets, or Whole Foods.
Oh! I forgot! ( Silly me!) We have food vouchers for that. Maybe it would work for schools, too?

Why? Mainly because I don't want that. I don't think it would be evocative of the kind of individual initiative that I believe to be valuable. I don't know of anyone else who travels in my circle of acquaintances who would want that either. Ergo, no social contract on that for me. Someone other community might want a food dispensary. Maybe they'll get one.

But I think it must be part of a bigger context of self-reliance. It will happen eventually on it’s own as government slowly kills it’s host.
I’d love to see schools be aggressively privatized - not only because it’s best for kids, but also to save taxpayers from throwing away good money after bad.
The defense of you philosophic stand is that you don't think food should fall under your umbrella of “social contract” because none of your circle of acquaintances or anyone you know thinks it should. That is weak defense of your position.
If food and clothing should not be part of the “social contract” than neither should schooling. Schooling is far less urgent a need than food.
Schooling should include instruction in the differences between "then" and "than".

Hmmm... is it to provide people who aren't equipped to support themselves with productive work with a "safe space", where there is no competition based on performance, a Guaranteed Lifetime Income, lots of time off, unlimited "second chances" for behavior bordering on the criminal, and a very generous "public employee" pension?
Cuz the "academics" who run the teachers unions really seem to think it is.
