CARSON CITY â Independent auditors concluded Tesla Motors Inc. met all conditions for tax abatements and credits during the eight months after lawmakers approved the perks in a special 2014 legislative session.
The audit by accounting firm Grant Thornton calculated Tesla has earned $9.6 million in transferable tax credits for the period Oct. 17, 2014, through June 30.
Tesla, in partnership with Panasonic Corp., is building a $5 billion lithium battery factory east of Reno in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. To lure the electric carmaker led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk to Nevada, state lawmakers last year approved $1.3 billion in tax abatements and other incentives.

Another Corp. gives California the kiss off due to high taxes expected.
Tahoe Reno Industrial Center
107,000 acres with 30,000 developable. Been there—so is Apple’s data center and wild horses. WHAT A GREAT PLAC FOR people to live and work. [No, I have no relationship with them at all.]
Nearest group of homes is a few miles away. Used to be one ranch.
Morning,
Merry Chistmas!
Back at ya!
The nearby city of Fernley is right off of I-80—and a lot of subdivisions bit the dust in 2009. But I assume they are making a comeback now. TRIC has gas lines, I-80, rail service, big pipe fiber cable, and onsite power plants. They put in their own roads too. Amazing project. And they have sufficient water rights.
What’s great about the location: Reno is only 9 miles away and Lake Tahoe another 30 minutes up the mountains. And only a few hours from Silicon Valley, Napa, San Fran.
Grant Thornton, in its report, said the project has hired 24 employees and 16 are Nevada residents, for a residency percentage of 67 percent. The employee tax credit for the period totaled $300,000.
The average hourly wage was $94.26, which does not include construction workers.
Well, since they seem to have only hired big bosses with an average salary of around $188,000 per year, there is a lot of room to hire many workers at burger-flipper wages and still keep to the $22 average...:^)
I know I worked there for 5 years. Fernley is still hurting Amazon moved to Reno and putt a hurt on the housing market even more than 08-09. The commute from Sparks to the area is a nightmare during winter storms.

The TRIC is really booming.
I live about 33 miles from that location right now, and when another road is cut thru, that commute will reduce to about 22 miles, it is estimated.
Due to family health reasons, I have this property up for sale. 5.58 acres, all set up for horses, with 12 separate paddocks or pens. House—Garage—wash rack w/tie rail. One mile from US Hwy 95A in Lyon County,. Annual property taxes last year were $675 and last year’s insurance was $827. Propane heat, with last delivery $1.45 a gallon. Private well & septic. Altitude 4200’ with 4 seasons. Light dusting of snow on ground as I type this and 29 degrees. Wild horses in this area, about 6 miles away at intersection of Hwy 50 & Hwy 95A. They don’t come this far south. Carson River & Original Pony Express Trail (Simpson Road) 4 miles south of me.
I can send SNAIL mail info to anyone who might be interested. Cannot do scanning. Old computer & land line.
IF anyone here on FR knows of someone who might be interested, please contact me. Thanx very much.
The production battery assemblers will be hired starting in summer of 2016, according to Tesla.
Yeah, but not for $94 per hour, I bet...:^)
I agree, but I don't really see a problem with that.
The guys who can design, build and set up a factory for a brand-new product in a totally new location are expensive. Hire the best you can afford, they will determine whether the venture is profitable our not for decades to come. It is a much different skill set than most other jobs.
Switch is here too, along with a lot of other tech companies.
Real estate prices are rebounding like crazy. Builders are building again. I wonder how much of an effect the interest rate increase will have on this market.
But with California companies relocating or expanding here means more Californians bringing their voting habits.
Isn’t it maddening when New YoRkers and Californians escape their respective hellholes—THEN THEY VOTE TO REPLICATE THE SAME STUPID POLICIES THAT DESTROYED THEIR HOME STATES???
I lived in both liberal bubble societies. Thankfully, I never made it to the polls until I had a monster wake up call to reality.
It’s ironic they don’t recognize they are creating the same hellholes they escaped from. They don’t understand that it’s their own damn fault.
