'Rhodesgate': Campaign To Remove Rhodes statue 'Is Like Isil's Destruction of Antiques', Says Oxford Don The campaign to remove a Cecil Rhodes statue from Oriel College is like Isil’s destruction of antiquities because it is showing no respect for history, a prominent Oxford emeritus fellow has said

By Javier Espinoza, 22 Dec 2015 The campaign to remove a Cecil Rhodes statue from Oriel College is like Isil’s destruction of antiquities, a prominent Rhodes scholar has said. “I am comparing what the [Rhodes Must Fall] movement are doing with what Al Qaeda and Isis are doing in places like Mali when destroying statues."

According R W Johnson, who is also a historian and author, students looking to get rid of the Rhodes statue at Oxford for his views on races and imperialist history are showing ‘no respect for history’. In his view, the Rhodes Must Fall movement want to do something similar to “smashing old Muslim statues” like Al Qaeda and Isil have done in recent months.

The emeritus fellow as Oxford University stepped in the debate of whether a statue of the colonialist politician should be removed after Oriel College said it had agreed to remove the plaque in honour of the empire builder.

The college also said it would start a six-month consultation process next February to determine the faith of the statue. However, it is understood Oxford isn’t just considering the removal of the statue but it is considering adding “clear historical context” to his monuments.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Mr Johnson said: “I am comparing what the [Rhodes Must Fall] movement are doing with what Al Qaeda and Isis are doing in places like Mali when destroying statues. This is a terrible embolism. They are destroying historical artefacts and defacing them.

They are taking down the Robert E. Lee statue in Lee Circle in New Orleans.

ISIS and liberals have much in common.

I see that the dear little snowflake brigade has taken over England's best universities too.

Damn their eyes and their attempt at rewriting history, by erasing people.

Was wondering when the PC folks were going to get to Cecil. Even more curious how the recipients are going to explain their acceptance of the scholarship.

Bill Clinton

Rachel Maddow

George Stephanopolous

Naomi Wolf

Nicolas Kristof

Cory Booker

The scholarship is designed to take bright Americans destined for greatness and indoctrinate them into the European (i.e. Socialist, collectivist, etc) way of thinking. As with everything in the Progressive movement, the end always justifies the means.

Cecil Rhodes may have to be erased, but the ideals behind his scholarship will continue on because it helps to “progress” humanity beyond the “tyranny of the individual” to a brighter future where only the collective good matters.....and a select few decide what is best.

Why not just follow the statue and see what church it goes to? Why would that take 6 months?

Then, can we get Roosevelt and Lincoln off our $$ for their views.

Maybe dismantle welfare for LBJ’s ‘200-yrs’ (I’d support the @#$@ outta that one)?

Remove the (illegal) drug and gun laws for their anti-black starts, PP for Mrs. Sanger’s eugenics wishes.

Hell, wipe our W. VA for all the Byrd adulation. Can’t drive 50 ft. w/out Mr. Kleagle’s name popping up SOMEWHERE.
