You don’t even have to go to different races. Just look at men and women. Who is the finder in most homes, the woman. “Honey, where are my socks?” “Under the bed where you always leave them.” Men tend to deal better in abstractions. Hunting for moving game has favored those kind of genes for millions of years. In addition hunting tends to be a silent activity, not conversational like food gathering. Women honed their skills for remembering information like where are the best fruits, nuts and roots, and when will they be ready to pick. When traveling, will a man ask someone how to find a place, no, he will drive around hoping to find it like a wild animal. A woman will ask any reasonable person, because of lots of generations hanging with other people, mostly women and children and sharing information.

You don't know my husband. The moment he wants to find something, he asks. I would rather take some time to observe the layout, look at maps, etc., and try to find the thing or place myself--so I rarely ask for directions. I can have a map in my hand, and be pointing at the route to where we need to go, and hubby *still* wants to find someone and ask.
