CHP officers seized 11 illegal firecrackers from one of two Sonoma men arrested on suspicion of street racing after the drivers were spotted before dawn Monday speeding on Rohnert Park Expressway, authorities said.
At about 12:30 a.m. Monday , Officer Blair Hardcastle saw a gray Nissan 350Z and a white Infiniti G35 speeding at upwards of 80 mph while heading east on Rohnert Park Expressway near Highway 101, CHP spokesman Officer Jon Sloat said. The speed limit on the road is 35 mph.
After being pulled over, the drivers admitted to racing each other, Sloat said. Officers arrested Infinity driver Victor Manuel Guerrero, 20, on suspicion of street racing and Nissan driver Osvaldo Dagio, 19, on suspicion of street racing, driving without a license and possessing dangerous explosives, Sloat said.
Officers found the explosives, described as M-1000 firecrackers, in Dagioâs pockets, Sloat said. The Sonoma County Sheriffâs Office bomb unit secured the devices in an explosive-resistant container.
Furthermore, would you get the bomb squad out of bed at 1am to pick up a handful of firecrackers?
Seems a little under the mark in one area and a little over in another.
Speaking of going over, they had a hazmat team out in full suits to dispose of an and a chlorine container that fell off of some pool service guy's truck. Full containment equipment was used. When I was a kid the fire department would have hosed it down good, if anything had leaked. Perhaps they just used it as training, but quarantining the area was a bit much.
Have to legitimize or justify having Hazmat and bomb squad.
If they cannot be called- why have in the first place.
Although since they do not name size or type of firework, one wonders was it something else.
What are m-1000s? I remember m-80 was big enough to blow your hand off or kill.
If the found them in his pockets, he was wearing very baggy pants.
I suspect there is some exaggeration of what they really found.
I had my first In-N-Out Burger in Rohnert Park.
80 mph?!
Oh, the humanity!
“80 mph?!
Oh, the humanity!”
Guess it depends on the street. Traffic averages 80 on my commute.
“possessing dangerous explosives”???
IDIOTS!
M-1000s go for about 5 cents apiece, so let’s get off of the “dangerous explosives” nonsense shall we?
Same here. And the road in the article is called.an expressway. It wasn’t Oak lane.
Oh my God! Firecrackers? Someone quick, call the bomb squad, these must be terrorists.
They are crap compared to a real M-80. They’re nothing but regular firecrackers in an M-80 package.
They haven’t made 350Zs since 2008. You can get a used one in the low teens ($13000) with “low” mileage, under $10k a little more used. Not terribly out of reach for a kid with a job. I knew a military kid who had a G37.
If you want to make a felony case out of the firecrackers I guess you do have to wake up the bomb squad. Someone’s racking up promotion points.
Angling for his own TV drama.
Yeah, really.

Well, this IS California.......
Hmm...doesn’t exactly look like you could blow up a school with one of those. Well, a Lego school maybe.
