WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal health officials are lifting the nation's 32-year-old lifetime ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, but major restrictions will continue to limit who can donate.

The Food and Drug Administration announced Monday it will replace the blanket ban with a new policy barring donations from men who have had sex with a man in the previous year. While the one-year-ban has been criticized by activists it matches policies in other countries, including Australia, Japan and the U.K.

Gay rights activists said the new policy is a "step in the right direction," but falls short.

FDA officials signaled their agreement Monday, saying in a statement the change is "backed by sound science and continues to protect our blood supply."

Hmm, where have we heard that term before?

Isn't diversity wonderful?

“The Food and Drug Administration announced Monday it will replace the blanket ban with a new policy barring donations from men who have had sex with a man in the previous year.”

In other words, there are no restrictions.

Begin banking your own blood, and hope there’s no emergency that requires a transfusion a.s.a.p.

Isn’t there a time gap between contraction of HIV and when testing shows a positive result?

Great news, now that AIDS/HIV are at an all time high in the gay community.

If you're having surgery and have a little time you can bank your own blood at whatever hospital your using. My last surgery was an emergency and I couldn't bank any blood, but when I can, I do.

Will the members of the current administration get blood from that blood supply, or will they have access to a special supply?
If they get the same as the ordinary $h!tupons, then this is OK. If they have a protected supply, then we live in a fascist dictatorship.

backed by sound science

Never mind that -
They actually trust queers to go to a blood bank and

1) admit it, AND

2) be candid about their celibacy?

MORONS!

Our blood supply “be go to hell”. There’s no ending to the faggotry intrusion into our lives: military, blood supply, tv commercials, tv sitcoms, major and minor religions, etc.

Nothing like needing a blood transfusion and wondering where the hell they’re getting the blood. And if I’m right, the faggots will kinda’ enjoy this.

I’ve given, quite literally, gallons of blood. But I have not given since 1989. Its my way of protesting the system. The source of the blood is the only part of its use that is free. I’ll begin donating again when they PAY me for my precious bodily fluids. $1,075 a pint seems about right.

For me it’s just another win. I don’t have health care insurance so I won’t be needing any blood.

I donate three times a year.
It keeps my iron level under control.

It looks I may die from blood loss in case of an accident.

It would be preferable to slowly wasting away from an STD transmitted by blood donated by a nihilistic homosexual.

I’m going Galt on donating blood after 30 years of regular donations. The left-wing understands boycotts.
