I thought the entire purpose of LG’s being in the race was to grab a few apportioned delegate votes in SC to give to the main GOPe candidate at the Convention. Why wouldn’t he remain in the race through the SC primary?

Because his support was not even enough to do that, and I suspect he was bleeding through his cash fast.
