Of course he was, he was born in Maryland. He was also a citizen at the time of the adoption of the constitution.
So I was right, the Constitution doesn’t define it.
How’s that for a fact?
Oh I agree immigration is being used to rebuild America.
That’s different then what you claimed.
You’re a good and my son’s birth certificate shows you are wrong.
I’m just going by Vattel’s defintion - that the article was discussing.
Regardless, I’m thinking the “not born in the USA” thing is equally as deal-breaking for Cruz.
If nothing else, it calls for consistency. Conservatives can’t spend the last 7 years saying Obama isn’t an NBC (which I agree with), and then turn around and ignore the fact that Ted Cruz is in the exact same situation (one parent not a citizen, born outside the USA).
Where was it defined to begin with?
You have to file the paperwork at the embassy.
But his grandfather had been an indentured servant, ergo, not a “freeman,” and according to some, that disqualification would be passed generation to generation.
Yes, Freeper “jpsb” gave a good summary to me in post #72.
I should have realized the record of birth needed to be a US document.
“Thatâs different then what you claimed.”
Can’t respond, have no clue what you mean.
Those in the House and Senate have the Thin Yellow (gutless) Line.

Congress declared that “the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond the sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens.” 1 Stat. 104 (1790).

“An individual born to a U.S. citizen parent - whether in California or Canada or the Canal Zone - is a U.S. citizen from birth and is fully eligible to serve as President if the people so choose.”
Its pretty clear that the facts and relevant legal opinion is does not support your statement, Thackney. I linked the first analysis I found but there are many others in greater or lesser depth. This is not a non issue however the media tries to make it one. It is frequently dismissed because it seems over complicated but it is extremely important and relevant to the current election and to recent elections.

Perhaps I should have spelled out that the definition requires a citizen parent and Rubio had none.
of course you dont. That wouldn’t be obfuscation and distraction.
America is a nation of immigrants. The difference is previously people came here to be American and for a better life.
Now they are coming here to destroy us.
Maybe he is and maybe he isn't, but, performance-wise, he is NOT what he was initially thought to be.
Whatever he brought with him to DC was quickly nullified and he became little more than a side show pony to coddle and amuse the angry masses.
And the beat goes on...
Well, okay....if you say so.

EXACTLY!!
Continued searching turned up this very detailed analysis which supports the alternate point of view.

I think not only are the waters murky there is nothing to be gained by fishing there. I am convinced that the eligibility issue is a non issue with respect to Rubio after reading this analysis. I am still not happy about birthright citizenship because of the abuses and abuse potential but with the history outlined in the article its going to be a sticky job eliminating or curtailing it.
