The community this happened in was Lonsdale which since the early 1900's has been a poor part of town. My dad grew up in that neighborhood in the 1930's & up to the mid 40's. He and his brother and other kids were walking down the street with a rifle or shot gun to hunt a nearby ridge then a rural area now a radio/TV tower farm. Kids had guns then and no one thought it odd. No one got shot. Doors weren't locked.

What changed? Well for starters Western Heights, College Homes, & later Christenberry Heights, was built. All are Section 8 Projects. Part of LBJ's War on Poverty which sent Dad's running off to bed Welfare Check Mommas who had half a dozen kids from as many fathers and drew checks for them all.

Gang Activity has been increasing in Knoxville for years. Rather than using LEA resources to end them KPD has made Knoxville I/75, I/40, I/640, a well known Ye Ole Speed Trap. Put those cops back on beats including walking ones in the projects. Make Gang areas a two cops per car patrol policy. Let THP patrol the state Interstates inside the city. Knoxville has a DEM Liberal Mayor whom I sure will "Amen" Obama's nonsense rather than actually addressing the increase in catching and prosecuting the gangs.

Would I go into Lonsdale unarmed? NO! Nor will Cops on duty or off. We don't have a Gun Problem we have a People Problem with Feral Kids without conscience being brought up without any Moral guidance. Remember it was Liberals who said "Take GOD out of school and public venues". It is Liberals now demanding Gun Control. Well Liberals we've tried doing things your way for 50 years and our nation thanks to your beloved Community Organizer savior has almost been destroyed and on a fast track to destruction since January 2009. It's our turn now. Your way makes as much sense as Germans surrendering their nation to Hitler and demanding Jewish and other citizens surrender their weapons. My answer to you is HELL NO!

I'm 58. When I was even 14 years old Knoxville was safe. In 1970 & 1971 Knoxville in most places was safe including downtown. I know because at about 8:00pm at night I would sometimes walk from downtown at the theaters to the phone company on Magnolia Ave to get a ride home with my dad where he worked. That area is now the mission district and not safe at all to be day or night. Thank you Liberals. Thank you all very much.

so once again, a person gets shot by THUGS with GUNS bought illegally no doubt, and dear leader’s response to ‘make us safer’ is to disarm us even more?

What’s his next bit of advice? Leave our doors unlocked if our house gets robbed? “Stricter lock laws”? (IE: Make it impossible for people to own locks)

Perhaps he could pass a law demanding that rape victims wear T-Shirts that say “Come and get some- I am forbidden from fighting back”
