President Vladimir Putin says Russia will continue to develop nuclear weapons but doesn't intend to use them.
The Russian leader made the comment in a documentary called "World Order" that was aired on state television Sunday night. ...

The second uh uh, was Putin saying an attempt by NATO to drive them out of Crimea (where they have had a navy base since like the 1790s) would be a declaration of war and could go nuke.
That’s about like us saying if Russia tries to drive us out of Norfolk, it would be an act of war.
Putin didn’t have a naval base there since 1790. The Tsar dynasty, whom his forerunners murdered, did.
Why do I feel like we are regressing to the past?
Actually, it’s more like a squatter threatening to stay past the expiration of his lease.
You are correct, Putin wasn’t born during the era of Catherine the Great and Thomas Jefferson. And the monarchs were killed 3 decades before he was even an indecent thought.
But the fact remains, that has been a Russian base since about the time we were forming the constitution. It isn’t exactly a surprise that they wouldn’t let it become a NATO base without taking action. Which they did when the coup was going to do exactly that.
No need to use the left’s language, although it is true that we’re going back as far morally as to the time of Noah. That doesn’t make our foes more moral, though.
That is completely wrong. Putin was born during, or even before the era of Catherine the Great, as proved by documentary evidence here:

These people claim Putin is immortal...
Only a neocon or an Obama-ite could spin an EU and US effort to drive the Russians out of Crimea, as legitimate self defense. It’s Orwellian.
As for overstaying a lease, there is no lease. When you have a coup you do not get to claim everything the old government had. You only get to claim what you can seize.
When a coup begins, all other parties have the same right to grab what they wish to control too.
If a Marxist moslem coup grabbed DC, Texas has a right to ignore it, not submit, and to declare their own zone separate. A coup only owns what it can conquer.
"Obama-ite?" LOL--here we go again: if one does not toe the Soviet propaganda line, then one supports Obama. LOLOL
I wonder if any of them post here?
I’m afraid I may not have made myself clear.
What I intended to convey was that the Soviet’s are on the rise as they once were.
Yes, I agree with that.
There is still a lot of talk about this decade being reminiscent of the 1930s in more ways than one, in addition.
I’m reminded of George Washington’s admonition with respect to the USA’s “rank...among nations” being lost due to garnering a “reputation of weakness”. Certainly is bearing fruit thanks to the current administration.
I think a closer, but not perfect, analogy is Texas, which started as an independent Republic.
But it's true that Russia has been in full possession of Ukraine for over 300 years. They were de facto the same country in the dark ages and the emergence of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Kievian Rus established both societies and nations circa 900 AD.
Kievian Rus was conquered and disbanded by the Mongols circa 1200 AD.
The Poles took over circa 1350 and ruled for 300 years until Russia took over in 1654.
It's been essentially a Russian possession ever since.
That's a fine emotional argument to make, but not a legal one.
Correct. Legally Ukraine is an independent, sovereign state and has been since about 1990 or so.
But it's not an emotional argument as I'm not an emotional person, especially when it comes to a fight where the outcome does not affect me or my interests.
However, there is a social and cultural argument, real politic if you must, to partition Ukraine into it's constituent societies.
Kiev and everything west of the Dnipier is mostly Catholic and western due to their long occupation by the Poles. And the east is mostly Orthodox with a plurality of Russians.
As for Crimea, they are Islamic and they get what they deserve, the boot of the Czar.
One could make the same argument about Texas, but I doubt anyone will, here.
