The Little Drummer Boy is a bigger villain than the Grinch. The Grinch at least has some sort of heart-size condition and soul-gunk problem that he can blame for his lack of basic compassion. What excuse does the Little Drummer Boy have for his behavior? None.
The Little Drummer Boy is just a plain old jerk. Specifically, the kind of jerk who insists on telling us about a time he showed up at a party without a gift and made everyone there miserable by playing what he thinks was a sick drum solo.
But he cannot just tell us. Instead, he constantly interrupts his own narrative with twee drum noises so that it takes longer.

I am having visions of a stop motion Rankin and Bass "Little Bagpipe Boy" Christmas special and I have no way to stop screaming.
I finally figured out why I hate Little Drummer Boy so much.
1. It is an annoying song.
2. Everyone in the music industry has done a cover of it.
3. Radio Christmas movie has an even distribution across all songs produced.
4. Therefore half of the songs on any radio station playing Chrismas music are some version of Little Drummer Boy.
Fortunate my current job doesn't have music over the speaker system and I haven't been in stores much, so I wasn't parum-pum-pummed out by Thanksgiving this year.
I love all the Christmas carols, whoever sings them ....but this one song can get me out of the Christmas spirit faster than seeing hilLIEryâs face.Suppose the little drummer boy had grown up to be Mongo Santamaria? ;)
(Sweetheart, I'd have loved being serenaded by his conga drumming when I was a babe . . . of course I didn't have to grow up to be the Messiah, but still . . . ;) )
Yeah, for worse, just like most political "entertainers". A tin eared communist. (Born in the USA my @$$)
Have you ever dug down to find out why you think it is annoying. It challenges some preconceived idea of yours? Maybe your pride would begin to be bruised?
The idea of the humble gift given and received with love is very very old. This is why the song has been a perennial. Quibbles about what a sinless babe might or might not do in such a situation are beyond the point... and even there, one could argue that if the babe was caught in the right mood, yes he would like it.

I actually like “The Little Drummer Boy” by the Harry Simeone Chorale (1958).
Playing with Livan, opening for Alice.

Seven gave me a mangled, split, beat up drumstick and Alice, a cane.
It was my night to have sticks thrown at me.
Best night of my life.

>> “Carol of the Drum”... written by the American composer Katherine Kennicott Davis in 1941.
As far as history goes...that ain’t very far.
If it’s not recorded in the Bible, where else would you look...The Bethlehem Post?
âGrandma Got Run Over By A Reindeerâ.

Just heard tonight, that song has sold 11,000,000 copies.
I remember a version when I was very young where arab looking dudes storm his home and murder his family. He was so angry they had to paint a smile on him.
I’ve always loved the song you bunch of Scrooges.
It’s White Christmas and all those secular songs I don’t like—At least the kid was trying to so something for the baby Jesus—Giving all he had, like the widow in the Temple.
To each his own, I guess.
Why would you post this?
My least favorite song is whatever I want it to be.
Try a bit of Soul Cake instead
It’s a wonderful, serious Christmas Story that actually includes the birth of Jesus. In context, the song is lovely.
And then Rankin/Bass sold out and produced 20 holiday horrors.
