How could anyone even think of giving her the possibility of getting out in 26 years? This was an especially heinous act and if they couldn’t or wouldn’t sentence her to death she should at least never see the light of day again!

In many jurisdictions, 25 or 26 to life is the maximum (non death penalty) sentence for murder a judge can impose. What it means is simply that the defendant is not even eligible for a parole hearing until that point. I seriously, seriously, doubt she'll ever get parole.
