Ken Cuccinelli, president of the influential Senate Conservatives Fund, endorsed Ted Cruz for president in Virginia on Friday afternoon.
Cuccinelli, a former Virginia attorney general who lost the 2013 gubernatorial election by fewer than 3 percentage points, leads the Senate Conservatives Fund's efforts to install conservative insurgents in the U.S. Senate.
Three senators running for president in 2016 earned SCF's endorsement during their Senate campaigns, namely Cruz, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. But Cuccinelli formally announced his decision to support Cruz on Friday.
When Cuccinelli endorsed Cruz onstage, he said the 2016 election was of immense historical importance, or as he put it, "like 1776 important."
"I came of age just after Reagan was re-elected, so I didn't get a shot at voting for Reagan. If we could have spread this field across all those elections, I'd have someone better to vote for in every election for president than I actually had," Cuccinelli said.
"And yet, when I look for all of the things like a commitment to life and family, and a commitment to fixing our judiciary, which is sorely in need of fixing, who will fight the establishment in Washington, which is so much a source of all of our problems, not just talk about it but have a proven track record of doing it, Senator Ted Cruz stands alone. He stands alone and that's why I'm proud to endorse him today."
When the Washington Examiner spoke with Cuccinelli about the 2016 race earlier this year, he indicated that Virginia poses several challenges for whomever becomes the GOP nominee. Cuccinelli said Northern Virginia is filled with transplants from out of state who closely follow the debate in Washington, including about government shutdowns, budget disputes, and debt ceiling squabbles. But, he said, it's important to remember that not all Virginians have the same concern and focus on D.C.
Cruz, who ranks first in the Washington Examiner's GOP presidential power rankings, traveled through Virginia as part of his "Take Off With Ted" tour of the March 1 nominating states. He also has plans to visit Georgia and Alabama this weekend.
Very impressive!
I love Trump!
I hope you understand that Trump is not a conservative or a libertarian.
He is a salesman who over promises and under delivers. Be warned!
While I’m sure Trump has some true support, as evidenced by people on here, I firmly believe much of these polls are populated by lazy, unthinking people. “Who of these do you support?” “Well I recognize Trump’s name so...” Of course these are people who are too lazy to vote too.
You can't make this stuff up.
Last night one of them said, "At least Trump has never flip-flopped!"
The fabric of reality has been torn and we've all been catapulted into The Twilight Zone, LOL.
Priceless!
PRESIDENT Ted Cruz!
.
That is unfair and shameful conclusion. Should we do same with the others? Why not acknowledge and accept that Trump supporters might actually like what they hear from Trump? That the reject the lies and hypocrisy of politicians like Cruz, Rubio, Bush, Paul, and others.
The trend is our friend. Cruz steadily gaining.
Trump is selling AMERICANS. He believes in America, he is not playing political games, no political lies and hypocrisy. He is not owned by anyone and is not out trying to out-pander anyone. Trump has appeal to all Americans, which is his strength. You might criticize this but the alternative is a martyr, liars, and worse. Lose with Cruz, happy for his views you might like, but lose in the end. Or, go with Trump and win.
More lies. Cruz isn’t for amnesty.
Yeah it’s all cynical sh.. that they think will drive people on here to Trump. I’ve got news for them: AINT HAPPENING!
I like what Trump is doing to energize people, but it’s CRUZ OR LOSE!
-— Cruz is so far behind. Trump has run away with this. I like Cruz but his views on amnesty could destroy America. Trump is leading big everywhere. . People love Trump -—
It seems like that at first blush.
But in this 13-man race, Cruz leads Trump 40-39 in combined first and second choices. As candidates drop out, Cruz gains.
As other candidates support is flat or declining, Cruz support is skyrocketing.
The pattern is obvious, which is why he now leads most prognosticators power rankings.
As I said, I’m sure there are true dedicated Trump supporters. I just don’t believe the polls are as accurate as all those screaming how far out in front he is believe.
Unfortunately, that's all you have to go on when it comes to your candidate.
Talk.
actually, you happen to be wrong
he has the strongest record of accomplishment of any one one the stage
There, fixed it.
How many primary delegates has Trump gotten so far? Last time I checked, Trump was still tied with George Pataki.
