The system definitely needs an overhaul. I live in an SEC primary state now so my (primary) vote actually matters, but before that the nomination was determined before my state’s primary. It was always frustrating to not really have a say.

Exactly. That's the way it is for me now. There may be a tiny bit of influence by the time it gets to us, but it is greatly diminished if it is there at all.
