BLAINE, Minn. (WCCO) â Some parents in the Anoka-Hennepin School District are questioning a choir teacherâs decision to use a song about Ramadan performed in Arabic at a holiday concert.
At Thursday nightâs concert at Blaine High School, one of the songs students will be singing includes Arabic words, including the phrase âAllahu Akbar,â which means âGod is great.â
Christian and Jewish songs will be performed as well, but the Ramadan song is getting all the attention.
It started with a post on Facebook. A parent of a ninth-grade Blaine choir student posted the lyrics to the song the choir has been practicing. When others learned students would be singing the song on Thursday, the comments took a turn.

Obammy Akbar

Amazing. Not so much that I’m actually amazed more that I’d bemused in much the same way the captain of the Titanic was.
Edumacators have gone off the rails.
Waiting for the ACLU to sue all of them into oblivion for this clear violation of the separation of church and state.
Minnesota, not surprised..
Why would they do that? I mean, c’mon man! It’s not like they were singing “Away in a Manger” or some other such evil Christian song!
I thought Music was HARAM so we should behead the choir and yell allah akbar while doing it?
You know to “respect their culture”.
Ramadan was in June/July.
Someone should blow up a small paper sack and pop it at the end of the song.
Government controlled schools must be abolished. Completely. From pre-K to Ph.D. Education is far too important to allow government to continue making a hash of it. The entire educational establishment must be returned to the private sector where it belongs.
I wonder if this moron “teacher” knows that Christmas and Hanukkah are in December, whereas Ramadan is in June and July. Are they going to sing Rosh Hashanah and Easter songs at the December “holiday” concert too?
Its multiculturalism in full bloom.....
No “Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles” this year?
No chants of “Zeig Heil?”
The stupidness of the Educrats. They are so incredibly predictable and reactionary.
Just like my kids’ school district. The fat, middle-aged chorus instructor, so as not to not give offense, has used the below formula for at least the last 8 years:
One “holiday” or vanilla “winter” song, one latin song (which is Christian in nature, but no one understands latin) one African song where the kids sway and bang on bongos during it, and one hannukah song.
Honestly, I think I would prefer the removal of all religion from public schools before allowing this nonsense to take place.
They’re very insistent on teaching Arabic words and phrases to Americans. Hardly a day goes by without the media doing so.
