Right. My reaction at this point is tell them, “Don’t let

go anyway.
So, this means the "commander" is probably in the O-3 to O-5 range. In the world of the Pentagon, this is lower middle management.
I come from this world, and I know of what I speak. You can't swing a dead cat in the Pentagon without hitting a dozen officers of this rank. They probably don't even rate a private office; they're most likely cube-dwellers in the Pentagon. That's not snark or disrespect; just the truth.
I think the journalist intentionally uses the word "commander" to imply "Chief of Naval Operations" or some such thing. It is deceptive.
