Historically, Santorum has had one of the strongest stances on immigration. He has held that not only illegal immigration but legal immigration should be radically curtailed.
Fair enough. But I think Cruz staked out a position on immigration that he thought would be tougher, even if just barely, than those candidates that he thought would be his serious rivals. He probably didn’t think Santorum would be much of a factor so wasn’t too concerned about it.
I forgot about Santorum. Is he still in the race?
