Here’s How Much Free Publicity Donald Trump Gets

First it was the summer of Donald Trump. Then it became fall, and now winter, and still Trump sits atop the Republican polls and dominates every news cycle. For his campaign, that constant exposure essentially translates to free money.

That's according to a Bloomberg analysis, which found Trump has enjoyed the equivalent of as much as $23.4 million in free media this year from ABC, NBC and CBS alone. Bloomberg arrived at this figure by looking at the total time Trump has spent on those networks and the average cost of a national ad.

"There's really no precedent for the amount of free media that Trump is able to get"...

For his campaign, that constant exposure essentially translates to free money.

For the MSM, Trump's candidacy essentially translates into high ratings.

Most of this ‘free publicity’ was media attempts to damage Trump’s candidacy.

Agree. He knows how the system works and can turn it around against the system. He can do the same thing with the Washington “uniparty” system.

Keep in mind that a dollar of earned media is worth significantly more than a dollar of paid advertising media (possibly several times more valuable).

Earned media is basically free news coverage. People are conditioned to pay attention to the news and tune out advertising.

“For his campaign, that constant exposure essentially translates to free money.”

Don’t underestimate/forget that Trump has spent DECADES building his public brand. He has spent (and subsequently reaped) an enormous amount of money getting his name into the public consciousness with a reputation of “get big done” and “tough but fair”.

Trump has ALREADY spent his advertising budget. Unlike most current candidates, he’s not trying to introduce himself; EVERYONE already knows who Trump is. Hillary is the _only_ other candidate who has likewise spent decades building a public brand, and that hasn’t gone well - requiring a whole lotta spending now to repair the reputation.

One thing Donald Trump is is a people person. He can get in a fight with somebody and a few weeks later make up and be buds again. He will schmooze Mitch McConnell and company right into his total agenda. Invite them all down to Maralaga for a retreat or something.

I see Trump as the only person running for President with the force of will to get this quisling Congress working again and passing the legislation we need to jumpstart the economy and pay down the debt.

Frankly, I don’t care. Time magazine and the rest of the media has donated BILLIONS of promotional time and adulation to the Obamacult.

The worship encompasses every facet of media. Heck, this Thursday the NBC network is having some lame “reality show” featuring some tour guide leading his little tin god Obama through the Alaskan wilderness.

Yep, beheadings sweeping the middle east, ISIS threatening the homeland, and the economy is in ruins.....but NBC chooses cult worship of the one responsible.

Soooo shut it, Time.

Excellent summary. But. Watch for somebody to suggest Trump should be taxed for the free in-kind advertising. Not Obama. Not Hillary. Just Trump. Because.

I agree. It is disturbing that so many “purists” don’t like the way he talks or are so suspicious of someone who is NOT a politician being able to manage the Washington Uniparty. They choose to cut off their nose to spite their faces. i am ultra conservative, but have priorities which include choosing someone who can get the job done. That someone is Trump.

The difference between Obama and Trump is that the media adores Obama and hates Trump.

Trump has outmaneuvered the media. He is clever enough to get earned media from those who wish him dead.

Trump is using a Hemingway technique to give words more power. The more economical the use of language, the more power each word has. And the more power each word has, the more power each sentence and each phrase has...and so on and so on.

Furthermore, by using sparse language and speaking in generalities, he makes his listener figure out what he means and in doing so makes them an active participant in the conversation, thereby embedding his message in the listener mind and memory.
