Presidential candidate Ted Cruz has publicly spoken of his love of "Star Wars," calling Han Solo the "coolest character in all of cinema." With the newest installment of the franchise arriving this weekend, the Cruz campaign hopes to spread the senator's love of the films to some lucky supporters.
Users of the Ted Cruz 2016 mobile phone app began receiving a notification over the weekend alerting them to a contest where those who earn the most points on the app between now and Dec. 15 will get tickets to see "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" on opening weekend.
"Ted is a huge fan of the entire saga, and we know many of you are too. So keep helping us get the message out for a chance to win a movie night on us!â reads the notification being sent to Cruz app users.

Make no mistake, I like Ted Cruz, but somehow I just can’t see Ronald Reagan back in the day referencing ‘Star Wars’ or perhaps commenting ‘The Farce Is Strong With This One’ (referring to Jimmy Carter).
Sorry Ted. The coolest character in all of cinema is either Snake Pliskin or Wyatt Earp, both portrayed by Kurt Russel.
Special mention for Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.
Never saw that one. I’m generally not big on more modern westerns overall. Val Kilmer ( the best Batman ;) was what got me to watch Tombstone but the whole cast was awesome.
In Costner’s version, I was struck by the relationship that developed between Costner’s character and Quaid’s, however Kilmer had it all over Quaid so far as his total portrayal of Doc Holliday. The ‘silver cup vs revolver’ demonstration remains one of my favorite scenes.
I presume you have seen Kilmer’s portryal of the late Jim Morrison in ‘The Doors’? He *becomes* Morrison.
Yup. A long time ago but I saw it.
I loathe the guy’s politics but he’s an incredibly gifted actor. Great comedian in stuff like Reall Genius and Top Secret. The Doors and Tombstone speak for themselves.
The Batman thing, I had wanted to see him as Batman back when Keaton first did the role. I know a lot of people didn’t like him in it but I thought he nailed the character. He had the brooding Wayne thing AND the Adam West campy thing when it called for it.
Actually, I’ve never seen “Star Wars”, and never had an inkling to see it. All I know about is what I’ve read, heard people say, or trailer-ads on TV.
So, I probably won’t be connecting Cruz on that theme.
Nevermind that Reagan's SDI became known as Star Wars, although that wasn't his intention.
Cruz is very pop-culture aware. In the speech I saw him give last year, he talked about some of the great classic SNL sketches in good detail. I love that he's a Star Wars fan and plays Candy Crush. He already matched me 100% on policy but amazingly we have the same taste in entertainment as well.
GO CRUZ!
