We have been dealing with radical Islam since 1801 in Tripoli, when we defeated Barbary Pirates and freed the American sailors they captured, and were opposed to them ever since.

You are correct about the Barbary pirates, which we dealt with in 1801-1805 in the First Barbary War. Until we had to deal with them again in the Second Barbary War in 1815.

Because we punched the bully in the nose, hard, they never bothered us again.

But my comment was specific in that we have not had to deal with since 1967 in America, whereas, the Barbary Wars were fought overseas and not on our soil.

One of the opening shots in the present war on terror was the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968 by Sirhan Sirhan. It took years for that killing to be put in proper context.
