Following the polls as religiously as some here like to do presupposes that the campaigns are fake, that the voters are sheep, and that few if any of them ever change their minds.

your former democrat and Clinton supporting candidate Trump.

Most people who say that would not have voted for Ronald Reagan, if they had been old enough to vote then, or now.

First-rate original analysis. You should expand it and send to Breitbart.

At the very least it deserves its own thread.

Very interesting riff on "pledging"/"auditioning."

Your post is MUCH more interesting, I should add, than the article posted at the top, which is a thumb-suck piece: “The polls could be right, or they could be wrong. We won’t know until the voting starts.” Utter waste of time. Sorry I read it.

I’m still chortling. The polls that use only likely voters still have Trump running away with it. LOL!

These are just questions people asks when they don’t like the polls. I’ve been there many times.

Very interesting post.

A lot of truth in it.

My problem though is that Rush is consistent in his conservatism and Trump is not.

Rush says that words matter, that he is the mayor of “Realville,” and he has built an audience on that brand.

Now Trump isn’t so clear, his opinions, statements come out as big bold colors and then the colors run together in a confused piece of work - leaving the interpretation up in the air.

I trust Rush.

I don’t trust Trump.

But beyond that, your analogy is pretty good.

Trump isn’t a Conservative and it is more than likely that most of his support is coming from old Wallace democrats, John Anderson moderate republicans, Ross Perot angry moderates, and Pat Buchanan Paleo-Isolationists.

Old Wallace democrats are dead or have alzheimer's by now. John Anderson? I would be surprised if many current voters even remember the man.

Now Perot and Buchanan you have something. I have always thought that Ross Perot made the mistake of not running in the Republican Primaries and had he done so, would have stood a good chance of beating George Bush. Republicans were mad at Bush for backing down on his "read my lips pledge",

Buchanan got smashed by the MSM for wearing a Cowboy hat and a gun in Arizona or some such if memory serves me correctly. He was beating Bush in the polls until the MSM and GOPe cut him down.

Now comes Trump. He's doing what Perot didn't do running in one of the main party's primaries. He's also got the added bonus that Perot doesn't in that there is no Republican President to run against. He has also the benefit of using alternative media to get his message out and he's mastered the MSM making it difficult for them to create their fake horse race scenario (they usually pump up different candidates at different times until the primaries start to dictate what the real story is).

Trump has garnered real Republican support because of his pledge to build a wall to stop illegal immigration. The Republican base knows this is crucial to having any chance of keeping Washington out of our lives and pocket books. He has proposed a general America First philosophy whether it comes to Security, Trade or other foreign policy. He is an "American Lives Matter" movement plain and simple.

Lastly as far as being a conservative all of the top polling candidates fall short of being conservative. Some more than others. As a Trump supporter and Reagan conservative he hits enough of the major issues that I am comfortable with him in the Oval Office. There is only one other candidate (that has a chance based on the polls) who is conservative enough for me to vote for and that is Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz does not have my support because of H1b visas, TPP, and I think he is very susceptible to being hurt by the press. The rest of the field is a disaster.

This is my uninformed Republican rank and file view.

Your farewell post. Naw....Much more interesting than your former democrat and Clinton supporting candidate Trump.

Yo, numbnutz, I'm a Cruzer and have donated to Ted Cruz a minimum of ten times since he declared.

I also like Trump, but if I could wave the wand, I'd declare Ted Cruz as the next President.

If you want to get in my face, that's OK, it would help if you were dealing with facts, not your worthless opinion.

Piss off.

You will note I said “have the right” which is not the same as the actual act. I’ll attribute that to your reading comprehension skills.

If Trump is the nominee I will hold my nose and vote for his worthless carcass just like I voted for Nixon, Ford, Bush I, Dole, Bush II, McCain and Romney. None of them was my first, second, or even third choice, but they were better than the democrat alternative.

I was a Reagan democrat. I supported him in 1976 and 1980.

I do not support Trump.

There is no way Trump looks good compared to Reagan. It’s like comparing a pygmy to a giant.

I’ve been one of the ones trying to show Trump’s true colors to the cult. Trump is a former Clinton supporting democrat and I’ve said as much many times. I’m also old enough to have supported Reagan in three elections.

That was the point.
