Ole Miss renames Christmas event because it 'connoted too much Christianity'

Ole Miss is attracting attention for renaming its annual holiday celebration to make the event more inclusive for members of the university community.

"A Grand Ole Christmas," the university's annual campus tree-lighting ceremony, will now be known as "Hotty Toddy Holidays," according to Kay P Maye, who handles special events for the Student Activities Association

Christmas isn’t just another holiday.

Nope, I’ll never leave Mississippi unless something cataclysmic happens, politically and culturally speaking. Ole Miss is a university in a university town, and no different from most of them everywhere in the US. They’re just catching up in one fell swoop, it seems. But otherwise I’d never live anywhere else, for a lot of reasons. My brother moved to Virginia some years ago, to be near my mother and other family who moved there, and he expected things to be not too much different, as Virginia was still nominally a southern, conservative state. Boy did he ever get some culture shock, and this was before McAwful was governor. I warned him to be wary of states which require front and back license plates, hahaha.

That really just pretty much makes it a microcosm of the rest of the country-well no, I can’t say that anymore, or that phony Hussein could never have gotten elected twice. Or maybe it is still true, because in the last presidential election, enough conservatives weren’t motivated to even bother to vote. Big mistake, I think. But that GOPe Romney in sheep’s clothing would have only been marginally better, but that margin might have made a huge difference-possibly no Commiecare, for one thing, since it didn’t work so well when he passed it as governor. And certainly no stupid comments about how the sound of the muzzie call to prayer (to their demon god) is one of the prettiest sounds in the world, or some such BS.

They've done it for years, maybe in your town too. Last night though was especially poignant somehow. I was wiping tears away while I walked home. I wasn't the only one.

Yep. Scenes like that are beginning to fade, like old movies that are no longer televised. For those of us who can see what is happening, it's difficult to avoid getting tight in the throat.

Yes, I was thinking........why not make Ramadan more inclusive? Rename it and let’s see if there’s a positive reaction

[[Hotty Toddy Holidays]]

Just come right out and rename it “Hedonistic Homosexual Celebration Day” And be done with it- Kick God completely out of your school- and see how well that goes for ya when God no longer blesses your organization

exactly- Everyone who is sick and tired of this crap needs to simply not attend, and maybe even book a hall nearby for a REAL CHRISTMAS celebration!

No big deal.

The important thing is, when does Ramadan start?

“Hotty Toddy Holidays”?? That sounds more appropriate for West Hollywood than Mississippi.

A pocket full of “Merry Christmas” confetti quietly dribbled everywhere could prove interesting.

Ole Miss and Oxford pwnd by The Left

Yankees

Writers

Southern Vichy

It’s a pity

Quite unlike the 70s

Nice strong oak main branches abound in the hardwood stands all over Lafayette county for the reckoning

I can hear them bleating now

They would do well to remember where they are....

Fun with Words that offend:

How about any Cinco de Mayo celebrations on the campus ... sounds a bit too "mexicanny" to me, but then again, I guess I'm just a mexicanophobe.

Don’t waste your time...the current holder of that office is an interim; the new Chancellor, Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, arrives in Oxford in February. Interestingly enough, he is the brother of Senator David Vitter, the Louisiana Republican who recently lost the governor’s race in that state.

I was on the OM faculty (as an ROTC instructor) in the mid-1990s. Not quite the bastion of political correctness it is now, but the faculty was decidedly liberal and many of the locals referred to the campus as “Berkeley South.”

However, PC only goes so far at Ole Miss. Many of the students come from wealthy families and they’re more worried about the next party than establishing campus safe zones. There is also a huge Greek population, and the frats and sororities (black and white) are as segregated as ever. It’s rather interesting that any discussion about race at OM conveniently avoids that subject.

Still, it’s better than going to school in Starkghanistan, the “town that fun forgot.”
