Don't get into a statistical fight with Leftists regarding guns. The internet is saturated with data that has been tinkered with enough to provide them with "evidence" that gun control "works".
The good news is that one need not cite any statistic to put death-wish Liberals in their place regarding gun ownership and usage. Instead, there are just ten simple and provable facts one can throw in the face of any beta-boy dressed in his pajamas, while he discusses healthcare with a cup of fair trade hot chocolate in his mittened hands.
The goal is simple: get them to admit that what they want is gun confiscation, and in the process, demonstrate that this will never happen. Watch with glee as their vision of Utopia crumbles (again) before their eyes, before cognitive dissonance takes over and forces them to de-friend you.
1) Gun ownership is a Constitutional right that will not be overturned by legislation, the courts, or a constitutional amendment. Ever. The last attempt, and the first one in 70 years to be heard by SCOTUS, was a resounding failure.
2) "Reasonable" restrictive legislation at both the state and federal level have been passed, but will always have limits, because they will face Constitutional challenge if they go too far. They have, and have been overturned.
3) California has the most restrictive gun laws in the nation and they made no difference in San Bernardino. No further restrictions would make any difference, because….
4) There are 357 million guns in the USA (okay, so I used one statistic). With so many guns in the nation…
5) No amount of restrictions will ever prevent someone from obtaining a firearm if they want one badly enough.
6) Restrictions only harm law-abiding individuals, depriving them of any ability to defend themselves. Criminals don't obey laws, and neither do terrorists.
7) Any attempt at confiscation not only violates the 2nd Amendment, it violates the 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments. Not only will such foolish legislation never pass, but if it ever did, it would be struck down before you could pull the trigger on enforcement, which itself would end in bloodshed vastly exceeding that caused by "mass shootings". Since Liberals want to take away people's rights in this instance without due process, why not just throw everyone in jail while they are at it?
8) Gun confiscation would never work anyway, because of Facts 4 and 5.
9) Even if confiscation occurred, it will accomplish nothing, because anyone who wants to kill people will do so, whether with guns, kitchen cutlery, explosives, or leaf blowers.
10) Any Liberal who finds themselves faced with an armed criminal would, at that moment, wish that either they or someone nearby, was armed.
That's it. Ten simple facts. You can add a bonus if you like. Every time Obama talks about gun control, gun sales rise.
Why do Liberals want to eliminate guns so badly? Why do they reach for statistics to try and prove their point? Why do they engage in rank hypocrisy? Why claim that they want gun control "even if it saves just one life", while simultaneously claiming that abortions should be legal?
It always goes back to the Leftist desire for Utopia, where bad things never happen. The only way to prevent bad things is to control everything. The only way to control everything is to strip power away from the individual who cannot be trusted, and hand it to the State, which uses force to control everything, and stamp out anything that is different.
It is, to paraphrase Evan Sayet, a Kindergartener's vision of the world.
Bad things happen. Our natural desire is to control things.
If Leftists want to control something, then identify those people most likely to commit violent acts, and attempt to prevent them from doing so. Let's start with doing away with the PC nonsense of denying that Jihad is here in America, and let our Intelligence and Law Enforcement services do their jobs.
Of course, that would require "profiling", which is "raci". In Utopia, there is no racism because everyone is equal. Because everyone is equal, there can never be any such thing as a "radical Muslim".
Except there are. And they are here. With guns. And bombs. And they want to kill us all, including the Utopians.
Which is why I prefer to be a "racist" with a gun, then a PC Liberal with a flower being pried from my cold, dead hand.
I’ve seen variations on this theme out on the Internet a LOT lately. I’m very suspect of it. We should never let down our guard, because if the Left sees a weakness, they will exploit it.
We’ve only ever been 1 judge or a handful of “representatives” away from confiscation. It would only take total Democrat/Liberal dominance of the three levers of government to make confiscation a real possibility.

Seriesly, I bet there are a billion firearms in the US. Legal/Illegal, assembled, parted out, etc.
The author is wrong. Liberals will always ‘win’ the argument by playing the feelings card. In the liberal mind nothing trumps feelings...logic and reason dont apply. The only teacher is the school of hard knocks, so let the lessons begin, some will get it others never.

I’ve heard the argument that “there’s 11 million ‘undocumented immigrants’—there is no way we could deport them all” made by the same people who seem to think it is possible to confiscate 350 million guns. I shudder when I think of all those poor guns being forced to live in the shadows...
Youe not getting this. Mostly its a waste of time to debate. Their mind is already made up, reason and logic dont play into the equation. Its all about being right and winning at all costs. Im OK with that. Anyway, its a right not a law etc. So, debate or not it makes no difference. If they want to exchange ideas respectfully Ill do that but rearely do liberals treat those of differing views respectfully.

I’m going with the Karl Denninger (Market Ticker) line of logic-—’The Second Amendment exists because in The Declaration the founders declared that you have a natural right to life; that is, you have a right to live simply because you are human.
No right is real unless you can defend it for yourself and those who you love (such as your children.)
The Second Amendment codifies a pre-existing right to defend your life, and the life of your loved ones, against any evil individual or group that would attempt to take life by unlawful means. That right is absolute and thus so is the Second Amendment. It is only when that right is abused by criminal action with said firearm(s) that one may be sanctioned.
The security of a free state does not only require that an invading army be able to be repelled.
Security also includes internal threats within a nation whether individual or collective.
The Security of a Free State was violated in San Bernardino just as certainly as it is when a thug breaks into your home in the middle of the night.
There are those who argue that we should have a list of prohibited guns, persons and the like. What those people are arguing is that those persons have no right to either their life or that of their loved ones.
Think about what you’re saying if you hold those beliefs very, very carefully:
You are declaring some people to be so much lesser than you that they do not have the right to live and further, you are declaring that someone else gets to make and update that list — which could quite-easily wind up with your name on it. Further, you have managed to collectively get some fifty thousand gun laws on the books of this nation and every one of them, and thus every one of you, has directly contributed to the lack of security of a free state exhibited in San Bernardino and elsewhere.’
I like it, Im convinced. :) However well reasoned the argument you must understand it would elude most liberals. Dont be disappointed when they give you the ‘deer in the headlights’ look and start in with the feelings argument. Its the nature of the beast. Only a reality check will bring them to their senses and sometimes even thats fails...
The ONLY response to gun confiscation or “reasonable” gun control is I REFUSE.
I "debate" them in the various Comments sections only from the standpoint of getting the pro-gun arguments out before more of the public. Like you, I see no point in trying to change the liberals' minds, but just maybe one or two fence-sitters might be "illuminated by my wisdom". :-)

We have a President who's an admirer of Stalin, who has friends (Bill Ayers and his gunslinging b*tch) who are even more explicit admirers of Stalin and open America-haters on the level of Captain Ahab.
I don't think we need sit still while one of these characters transforms himself into an American Caligula on the ruins of our Republic. If they push their mania, they'll be dealt with. The smut of a free society, they'll get cleaned up eventually.
